Centenial Operations Coordinator (Former Employee) says

"Temp job! Don't think that you will get a permanent position. They work you as much and as hard as they can for an 11 month period. You recieve no vacation or PTO time and get no benefits during this 11 month period. You are "let go" after 11 months for a month and then start back up with the same pay and again no vacation, PTO or benefits. N.C. State depends on this workforce and saves millions by doing this! Cons: No vacation, Pto, medical or dental benefits"

"As I just wrote, NC State is not a great place to work for staff. It's good for students and many faculty, if those are your paths."

"Blatantly inequitable compensation practices despite having a "policy" to pay equitably. Rampant nepotism occurring in plain sight. Manager hired his friend for my job in violation of the FMLA while I was out on medical leave for stage IV cancer treatment. Run by a long-time group of cronies who have little competitive work experience but excel in playing politics. Cons: Poor compensation, blatant nepotism, disregard for labor laws"

"Management is horrible and can not perform the simple tasks that is asked. No communication and the chef and sous chef at Case dinning hall are of poor quality. Do not work here!! Cons: All"

Delivery Driver for catering service (rave) says

"The only hours you will work are the hours that the manager doesn't won't to work. With that been said you will work late Fridays and Saturdays every weekend and early every Sunday morning for $10 a hours with no benefits and no chance of going full time. Once you hit that year mark they give you over to some temporary service for a couple of months then hire you back on through n.c state this way they don't have to give you vacation time or benefits. So STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY IT'S a waste of your time and sad that a world-renowned school dose this to its employees. Cons: No money, management sucks, long weekends."

"I worked here for 6yrs. NC State is a great college, but they do not respect their housekeepers. We were treated like 2nd class citizens and were expected to be seen, but not heard. I hated working in Facilities Housekeeping at NC State- it killed my morale, I felt like myself or my family didn't matter, I had no self worth, I was just a body to them. The salary is ridiculous for all the work we had to do. The supervisors are strict and the employees are considered nothing when it comes to state property. Every year they would gather up the housekeepers and tell us that the state is having budget issues, and that if it came down to it some housekeepers would lose their jobs! EVERY YEAR they made us feel like we weren't valued. We had to drive in the snow and ice to be at work and if you didn't come in you were fired, no excuses! Cons: self esteem, lack of respect for housekeepers"

"They recruited me hard but when I started to work they were concerned only about interpersonal politics. I have learned it is not important to work hard and honestly but to please my supervisor's mood needs every day. Disgusting experience. I left and never missed this place."

"The large animal hospital needs a true cleaning out - with HDQ-not just nolvasan. From the lack of personal responsibility on the part of most of the employees, to the perpetuating of such behavior by management it is a true shame that the large animal hospital is in the state that it is - but yet they wonder why there is a lack of applications flowing in and why they haven't been given a new hospital like the brand new state of the art small animal hospital (Terry Center) Cons: no work/life balance - not enough staff scheduled on all shifts"

"The mechanical engineering department is full of unethical people. This is absolutely a terrible place to work. This is quite unfortunate since Raleigh, NC is a wonderful place to live."

"Worked as IOR in order to get graduate funding. Pay not enough to do anything else but pay your rent (only if you live in graduate housing). The pay is not enough for anything else."

"My manager was very offensive to alot of my coworkers and was very rude which led to most of them quitting and also hinted a obvious racism towards people who did not speak English very well."

"I do love that almost everyone knows me ( kind of like Norm on Cheers, lol ) and al of the Talley pavilion, housekeeping, building managers. employees most of the Dinning Halls! I admire the compost and recycling programs that have been put into place! I have seen the work flow grow from the Student Pavilions side to the Catering side. Cons: lack of people"

"The job can be done by a hastily trained monkey, however, most employees still struggle with the work. The management is so inundated with busy work passed down from on-high, they border on being absentee management. Cons: 29 hours a week, unless you are a permanent employee, 8 weeks off every year, unless you are a permanent employee, no room for advancement, glass ceiling set firmly in place, outside hires for all mangement positions, highest pay rate for non-permanent employees $12/hr."

"The institution has incredible potential that cannot be met. Most of the management is inexperienced and inbred. The most detrimental management problem is that commitments are made without resources to complete the work or ability of managment to move projects forward. Cons: lack of parking, employees pay for parking, lack of prof development and resources"

"YMMV. Ups and downs, like anywhere. Depends mostly on supervisor, but most folks are smart and motivated. Sometimes politics gets in the way of getting things done, more so than I've experienced at other organizations. Cons: higher-education"

"Absolutely no communication between Dean's Office, Department Heads and Staff.....Senior Management are primarily middle aged and approaching retirement females, it is a female culture....white males are an endangered species training, no direction and very little feedback regarding perfomance...worst place I've ever worked...
