The Toronto Maple Leafs, often simply referred to as the Leafs, are a professional ice hockey team based in Toronto. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The club is owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Ltd. and are represented by Chairman Larry Tanenbaum. The Maple Leafs' broadcasting rights are split between BCE Inc. and Rogers Communications. For their first 14 seasons, the club played their home games at the Mutual Street Arena, before moving to Maple Leaf Gardens in 1931. The Maple Leafs moved to their present home, Scotiabank Arena (originally named the Air Canada Centre) in February 1999.

The club was founded in 1917, operating simply as Toronto and known then as the Toronto Arenas. Under new ownership, the club was renamed the Toronto St. Patricks in 1919. In 1927 the club was purchased by Conn Smythe and renamed the Maple Leafs. A member of the "Original Six", the club was one of six NHL teams to have endured through the period of League retrenchment during the Great Depression. The club has won thirteen Stanley Cup championships, second only to the 24 championships of the Montreal Canadiens. The Maple Leafs history includes two recognized dynasties, from 1947 to 1951; and from 1962 to 1967. Winning their last championship in 1967, the Maple Leafs' 51-season drought between championships is the longest current drought in the NHL. The Maple Leafs have developed rivalries with four NHL franchises: the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadiens, and the Ottawa Senators.

The Toronto Maple Leafs recent history is littered with poor management and bad deals, and being a big market with big media, this was eaten up by the rest of the hockey world an it is a general notion that the Leafs are a bad team. The ownership has always been more interested in selling tickets & turning a huge profit than putting a winning team on the ice. Toronto had some pretty good teams led by Mats Sundin, but they always seemed to choke in the playoffs. One of the best teams Toronto had in a long time was embarrassed by the NJ Devils in a 3–0 shutout where the Leafs only had a total of 6 shots on goal: 3 in the 1st; 2 in the 2nd; & 1 in the 3rd. Toronto has had many previous embarrassments like that on the ice going back to 1975 when Philadelphia held them to 13 shots the entire game.

Mr Ian Ings says

"Flowers were ordered by phone with the expressed requirement that they be delivered by 10:00hrs on the day as it was an 80th birthday. On speaking with the birthday girl at 10:30 it became clear the flowers hadn't arrived and she was about to go out. Jane Maple Flowers were contacted and I was informed they had left the shop. Sadly they didn't arrive before she went out and the 10:00 request was well and truly missed. The flowers were left with a neighbour to deliver the following day! Further calls to the shop to speak with the owner Jane Maples met with 'she's at a meeting' or 'she's not here'. On the final call she pulled up outside so I hung on while she came to the phone. To say the tirade I received from her would be unprintable here would be an understatement. She accused me of pestering her while on holiday and causing unnecessary stress by keep calling. So why then did her employee never say she was on holiday or she never return the calls? At no point did I ever receive an apology, in fact I ended up hanging up, not prepared to listen to any more. I certainly wouldn't use this shop again. I don't recommend it and I advise you to seek out another florist."
