Fentanyl, also spelled fentanil, is an opioid used as a pain medication and together with other medications for anesthesia. Fentanyl is also used as a recreational drug, often mixed with heroin or cocaine. It has a rapid onset and its effects generally last less than two hours. Medically, fentanyl is used by injection, nasal spray, skin patch, or absorbed through the cheek (transmucosal) as a lozenge or tablet. FENTORA is an opioid agonist indicated for the management of breakthrough pain in cancer patients 18 years of age and older who are already receiving and who are tolerant to around-the-clock opioid therapy for their underlying persistent cancer pain.

Fentora is a strong medication that needs to be used with caution and comes with multiple side effects as the ones listed on rxlist.com, "Common side effects of Fentora include: nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, weakness, tiredness, or swelling in your hands or feet. Other side effects of Fentora include pain, mouth sores, or irritation in the mouth where the medication has been applied. Some side effects of Fentora may decrease after using this medication for a while. Tell your doctor if you have unlikely but serious side effects of Fentora including: mental/mood changes (such as agitation, confusion, hallucinations), severe stomach or abdominal pain, or difficulty urinating."
