A cooktop, also known as hob, is a device commonly used for cookery that is commonly found in kitchens and used to apply heat to the base of pans or pots. Cooktops are often found integrated with an oven into a kitchen stove but may also be standalone devices.

There are inherent dangers in every cooktop, as stated in the following article on, "Are Induction Cooktops Dangerous? There are inherent dangers in every type of cooktop. Electric elements stay hot for a long time, posing a burn and fire danger. Gas stoves can leak or cause explosions. For many people, the use of magnetic fields to cook food raises concerns about the health and safety of this relatively new technology due to its theoretical effects on biological processes."
