Citigroup Inc. or Citi (stylized as citi) is an American multinational investment bank and financial services corporation headquartered in New York City. The company was formed by the merger of banking giant Citicorp and financial conglomerate Travelers Group in 1998; Travelers was subsequently spun off from the company in 2002. Citigroup owns Citicorp, the holding company for Citibank, as well as several international subsidiaries. Citi is incorporated in NY. Citigroup is ranked 3rd on the list of largest banks in the United States and, alongside JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo, it is one of the Big Four banks of the United States. It is a systemically important financial institution and is on the list of systemically important banks that are commonly cited as being too big to fail. It is one of the nine global investment banks in the Bulge Bracket. Citigroup is ranked 30th on the Fortune 500 as of 2019. Citigroup has over 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 160 countries It has 214,000 employees, although it had 357,000 employees before the financial crisis of 2007-2008, when it was rescued via a massive stimulus package by the U.S. government.

An employee shared this in an employe anonymous forum, "They treat you horribly bad. They poached me from another bank-I wasn't even really looking to move but they fed me a bunch of lies to get me in the door. For example, I was told I'd be working alone, I'd be salary and my position was a management like position where I would be leading a team in Texas but remotely from Florence. First day on the job and that was an outright lie. I was one of about 50 people hired for a new area in bankruptcy. I was not a manager, nor was I salary. During our training they stuffed 50 of us in a training room fit for 20 people (only 20 chairs and computers- we squeezed more in creating an obvious fire hazard) we were not allowed to use the restroom or have a bottle of water. They talked down to us as though this job and training were a punishment- like being there was a pun ishment for something we had done wrong. It was a hot mess to say the least. No one knew anything and over the last 3 years our jobs have changed so rapidly that we've been retrained at least 2 dozen times. Over the last 3 years I have seen some of the most unprofessional acts displayed by managers it's appalling. I saw one agent get fired in the middle of the floor, while her manager very dramatically and loudly told everyone she was an 'idiot' and 'she needed to hustle' all while the agent was crying and packing up her desk. I reported this to my manager and was told the agent deserved to be treated like that cause she cheated on her timesheet and what the manager did was citi policy. I took part in a roundtable where I expressed a specific concern about my manager at the time and by the next morning my manager had found out and threatened to put me on a PIP for talking about her in a roundtable and then proceeded to tell other agents she hated me. In addition to these things myself and other agents have been told we cannot use the bathroom, we cannot get water or coffee. I am a professional with a BA I do NOT need people telling me when I can use the restroom or not. This is only a tip of the iceberg. It's much much worse."

"There was no training. There was no guidance. There was nothing. For the first 30 days I didn't have a desk or a computer. I came in every day and flipped around from one desk to another. Finally, when I did get a desk and computer of my own, I did not have access to anything I needed to do my job. Gaining access was a long grueling process and it always seemed like I never had enough. I would gain access to one system but then would need another to use the first system. I would be granted access to the subsequent system (so that I could use the first system) only to be told I needed additional permissions to retrieve information from another database so that I could use the second system. I spent one whole year running in circles getting nothing done or learning anything. There was zero productivity in our business unit. I am hard-pressed to even describe what my job was... I don't think I will ever know what it was I was hired to do."

"Working for Citi group was the worst experience of my life! If you have any issues regarding your mental health do not work here! This place will kill your positivity, spirit and soul. It’s like the grim reaper in the form of an office. The managers are atrocious. During my time I had 2 different managers. The one woman was quite a piece of work. She was rude to all her employees, myself included. She would talk to us like we were teenagers and give us attitude for simply asking a question. She worked from home a few days a month. Not for any reason, but to stay home with her cats. Actually pathetic when you think about it. My other male manager was better but still condescending and rude. I asked to come in about 15 minutes late because I had a dentist appointment. He firmly told me no and if I have an appointment I have to take the full day off. I can’t just stay a few minutes later or work through part of my lunch. They timed your progress and how productive you were. If you were not productive for 85% of your day you were ridiculed and reprimanded. So you could take about 2 minutes to run to the restroom once a day and maybe take 20 minutes of your one hour lunch. Otherwise you were chained to your desk. If you even remotely enjoy your life, family, friends or mental and physical health I would STRONGLY suggest you forgo working for here. This place will kill your positivity and spirit in a matter of months. Do yourself a favor and skip this one!"
