Austin is the capital city of the U.S. state of Texas, as well as the seat and largest city of Travis County, with portions extending into Hays and Williamson counties. It is the 11th-most populous city in the United States, the fourth-most-populous city in Texas, and the second-most-populous state capital city. It is also the fastest growing large city in the United States from 2015-2016, and the southernmost state capital in the contiguous United States.

U.S. News & World Report named Austin the No. 1 place to live in the U.S. for 2017 and 2018.In 2016, Forbes ranked Austin No. 1 on its "Cities of the Future" list, then in 2017 placed the city at that same position on its list for the "Next Biggest Boom Town in the U.S." Also in 2017, Forbes awarded the South River City neighborhood of Austin its #2 ranking for "Best Cities and Neighborhoods for Millennials". WalletHub named Austin the #6 best place in the country to live for 2017. The FBI ranked Austin as the #2 safest major city in the U.S. for 2012.

One person shared on a social media forum the experience of living in Austin, "Did not like! Maybe if we were making more than 80k a year and could afford to live in cushy, cozy West Austin with bongo banging Hollywood elite? Maybe if we didn't have kids and so didn't mind living next to trap houses and hostile, staring, mobs of black and Hispanic gangsters *everywhere* on the East South and North sides? So, you live out of town and drive an hour through Dante's Inferno of Traffic to get to a bunch of crowded, hot, filthy, sticky beer tacky piss smelly bars where 20 year old from all over the world have come to complete with each other about who is more this, more that, more more more whatever. Enjoy music? Yeah but I have a band. Have a band? Yeah but my band is signed. I know more people, etc. In the libraries, people compete about who writes and has been published. In the grocery, who has healthier shit in their cart and can shop without acknowledging a single human throughout the entire experience. But mainly, it's the shitty gangsters who ultimately ruined Austin. They showed up around 2011 and never left. If you're not on Congress Ave enjoying a 150 dollar cup of coffee named after a cartoonist trans activist, you're likely in the vicinity of some shitty gangsta or gangsta wannabe making everyone's life miserable by thinking the entire city exists merely as a backdrop to his personal performance of Scareface 2, this time with less money and more loud cursing in public and catcalls to your daughters when they have a mob of 20 gangsters outside that filthy springs area.

Basically, Austin isn't a place to be a loner artist anymore. It's a place for frat pack failed yuppies to slug it out with vatos and homies, 10 at a time.

Look up "6th Street Brawls" and behold how Jerry Springer went mainstream and Austin both outpriced and violently drove off anything even remotely resembling a psychedelic art scene from downtown.¨

"If you choose to work for the COA, save yourself and do not work at ABIA. The city has its own HR at the airport and the pull many shady undercover shames to promote their favorites and fire those who cant be brain washed. Cons: HR and Managment"

"Working for the City you are working in a very internally political environment. Promotions do not happen on merit, they happen politically. Management promotes from an internal agenda and strictly for personal gain. How far you can advance will 100% depend on who you know and develop relationships with. Management does not recognize good, hard workers. Reporting ethics violations to HR and through other sources go unresolved. Retaliation is always a concern so issues and violations go unresolved due to the knowledge they will not be addressed as well as a fear of retaliation. Once hired, it is almost impossible to be put in the pay scale that matched your experience. In order to promote most of the time you have to transfer to a new position. City employees are overworked and underappreciated. There is no equity in reward for the same work performed. Cons: Management, Favoritism, Poor leadership, inconsistent rules"

"I had the worst supervisor. She was a liar, unprofessional, she did not know the meaning of confidentiality. She would bad mouth our own HR Manager. She made this job a horrible place to work at. I’m so happy now that I don’t have to be around this person. She also had an obsession with me and what I looked like or wore to work. "pretrip my truck. learn how to drive certain vehicles in all conditions. management was okay. work place was hostile every morning. hardest part was getting the job done with a three man crew and only 2 men working. enjoyable part was when we helped in weather crisis and came to the aid of total strangers. that in itself is always comforting. Cons: if the job requires 3 man crew the job needs all 3 men to come together and get it done"

"Very much micro management atmosphere, not condusive to a popular working environment. Also the manager did not manager, they let their lead do most of the work and when the lead was abusive, they didn't do a thing about it."

"I was a lifeguard for the City of Austin, which can be a good job for perhaps a student who still receives some financial support from their parents or maybe a spouse. Cons: No consistency for income or hours, very little opportunity for advancement"

"6 month probationary period is just too long and training is lacking. In order to transfer to a new position you must complete your initial probationary period of 6 months and start again in a new position"

"I worked in the Environmental Health Dept for 4 years, & although I can say I was paid well, my time there was a nightmare. My supervisor was a bully and so was her supervisor. I can’t speak for other departments, but this Dept had to bring in a private consultant b/c employee morale was so low from being treated so badly. It didn’t help, just gave mgmt a reason to retaliate. Best parts of working here were my pay and 2 paid maternity leaves."

"I am very upset about the customer service I did buy a matress on May/29/2020 at the Austin Texas online store to my surprise i did tried to track my package with the information that Matress Firm give to me and was impossible so after several emails to the store because they never answered the phones this men contacted me assured me that my matress will be deliver with no problem maybe very soon but at the same time he says that it is not possible to track my package because they weren't Amazon or something like that he says but because he want to be nice with me then him Mister Bert Cantu told me that for sure he would call me as soon he knows something anything about my package, because again they are not Amazon. I guess he doesn't know nothing because I still waiting for a call or for my matress of course I did emailed Matress Firm again and called them and again there is no answer. I make them 100% responsible because i am an assencial worker so my schedules vary everyday and i just need to know when my package would be delivery it is to much to ask? I need to know when the package arrives in order to be here at home I living very close to downtown Austin, Texas all kinds of people walking around without any restrictions and my package couldn't simply be there sitting for hours it could be stolen. Please if someone who working in Mattress Firm see this please help me."

"I recently referred my son and his fiancé to Natural Mattress in the Bee Caves location based on my Dr recommendation. The owner sold them a Magniflex mattress. It has been almost 3 months and they have yet to receive their mattress. They have paid for their mattress up front and have been offered no credit to date only a different type or size of mattress altogether as a loaner . The owner has been unapologetic, aloof, and without concern. I would not purchase a mattress at this location."
