Zip Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

ZIP is an archive file format that supports lossless data compression. A ZIP file may contain one or more files or directories that may have been compressed. The ZIP file format permits a number of compression algorithms, though DEFLATE is the most common. This format was originally created in 1989 and was first implemented in PKWARE, Inc.'s PKZIP utility, as a replacement for the previous ARC compression format by Thom Henderson. The ZIP format was then quickly supported by many software utilities other than PKZIP.

Zip file decompress/compress procedure takes time, it uses extra memory, and files can be corrupted, Irné Barnard, shared a review at quora.com

"The decompress/compress action takes time. It’s by no means as fast as just reading/saving a file. It also uses extra memory as the decompressing / compressing is a program running in the background - which isn’t needed when you’re just working on files directly inside a normal folder. When you double-click on a file inside a zip “folder”, what really happens is the file gets extracted to a temporary folder, and whatever program opens it is then directed there. This in turn means it may not work properly - e.g. what if the program also needs (some of) the rest of the files in that zip “folder”?."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at Zip Co full-time for more than a year Cons: Whilst growth is good, management does not take into account the well being of the employees. Everything is about increasing total transaction volume(revenue) and nothing is done to improve the culture in the company. All departments/teams has different goals to achieve, resulting in constant backstabbing at each other. Sexism and heated arguments are a norm here with no respect between each other. Employees are seen more like a slave workers, “just do what you are told to do”. A company that claimed to have grown but still act like a start up where everything is still driven by the founders with nothing stopping them. It’s not surprising the company has trouble back filling roles with the rate of good people leaving."

"I worked at Zip Co full-time for more than a year Cons: High rate of attrition. Low standards of acceptable professional behaviour, bullying and political games are very common and tolerated. Interference from every direction because everyone has an opinion on how wrong everyone else is doing their work. Company direction is all over the place. Unfair expectation to work over-time for the so-called 'startup' culture with no additional compensation."
