Telecom refers to: An abbreviation of telecommunication. Short for telecommunications company (telecommunications service provider) or the telecommunications industry, in general.

Andrew Arce mentioned, "Generally, Telecommunications companies are hated because of the poor service they provide to their customers. There are always complaints such as "my wireless carrier sucks" or " I hate my service." You might ask yourself, why doesn't a new telecommunications company come in and enhance customer experience? Unfortunately the telecommunications industry has such high barriers to entry, that its very difficult for new entrants to enter the business and provide a better service than the current telecommunications companies we have. Why do they provide such poor service? - The profit margins in the telecommunications industry have become so low, with the advent of texting and less people using voice. Margins are tight, and companies are starting to explore new means of charging their customers, ie cap data pans."
