"It was a lot of work, long hours, required lots of commitment on my part to get administrators to fill out and push through the required paperwork to purchase, clear projects and also pay me"

"Dumped assignments on you. the computer system was faulty. Cronyism abound. They used new employees as scapegoats. it was an overall bad work environment if you were not a lifer there. ."

File Clerk (Former Employee) says

"answered phone calls & direct them to the proper extensions or person they needed to talk to. Opened mail daily & disturbuted them in teachers mailboxes. Walk around campus picking up & delivering documentations. There was no hard work about it. Cons: very short break."

Administrative Assistant II (Former Employee) says

"I was hired in Workforce Development at TCC as an administrative assistant and worked there from July to September. Working at TCC was very difficult as my manager very frequently berated and swore at me, and even repeatedly criticized my appearance. I have heard from others that other departments at TCC are a joy to work in, just don't trust workforce development. They had a high turnover rate and the building was disgusting -- infested with roaches. Cons: poor management, dirty"

Assistant to the Dean (Former Employee) says

"I worked with students and faculty. I helped students register for classes. I helped faculty with their paperwork that was required by the college. Cons: dealing with the dean"

COMPUTER TECH (Current Employee) says

"To much management and meetings to be having meetings. Cons: To much micromanagement and to many meetings."

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"I love my job I love to see my residents smile and knowing I can make their day better. I learned to love everyone no matter their disabilities and to always uplift them most enjoyable part is interacting with everyone and enjoying their company."

Senior Accountant (Former Employee) says

"Although TCC pays very well and the benefits are great there are problems in the Business Office that need to be resolved."

Accounting (Former Employee) says

"College does care about the success of the students, but not about the employees who go over and beyond to ensure that students have what they need; top management does not seem to care about it's greatest assets - the employees; managers are kept in positions even when they are not good at managing people Cons: Expected to work overtime, on weekends; employees not appreciated"

Associate Professor - Humanities (Former Employee) says

"Arrived eight years ago and the college was amazing - winning awards, new President. But terribly-researched bad legislation and lack of funding have really changed the college and now it's not really a good place to work. Very few opportunities. Enrollment way down. Huge turnover. No raises in seven years. No overloads. New union with a contract very horribly negotiated that is very imbalanced. I'm saddened and don't want others to experience this. No respect for the transfer culture to FAMU and FSU and UF. Outdated buildings, little/no upgraded tech; many budget miscalcs and mis-spends. Cons: no raises; little paths to transfer or move up; high crime in the city"

Teaching Assistant (Former Employee) says

"Work study job...this was a job that I received through my financial aid while attending college. Basically when I was not in class I can report to my designated professor and assist with anything he needed assistance with such as grading papers or test, making copies, and inputting grades into the computer system."

Student Office Aid (Former Employee) says

"I had made life long friends while working at Tallahassee Community College!"

Recruiter (Former Employee) says

"Tallahassee community college itself is a great place to work. However, if you work in the workforce development division it is horrible. Noone in the division is happy and the leadership or lack there of will get rid of you at the drop of a dime. Human Resources actually laughs at the turnover rate of the workforce development division. TCC is fine but WD is terrible."

Media Lab Associate (Former Employee) says

"If hired as an OPS there are no benefits, no compensation, no job security and no advancement. Not a horrible place to work but not a place to build a career. Cons: No benefits"

"It was a typical work where I clean class room. The management wasn't as good. I fond my co-workers to be shadie at times. But over all it was just a job to pay the bill's at that time."

Student Ambassador (Former Employee) says

"I was new to TCC when I was a student ambassador, and there was a lot for me to learn. The program helped me because we got to work with other new students and help them register for classes. I learned a lot of useful information. Cons: Many applicants; competitive"

Adjunct Professor (Former Employee) says

"Highly ranked institution that doesn't have money from state to make need improvements an pay sufficiently to retain quality full-time faculty for key positions. Stay of Florida for you."

Computer Technician (Current Employee) says

"Changing rules and regulation without any notices, overall management quality is very poor. But friendly multicultural work environment."

Tcc OPS (Former Employee) says

"Just no enthusiasm no youth i wouldn't recommend the job to my friends nor would I want to work in the establishment unless push came to shove . Too slow paste for me honestly. Cons: Hours"

Learning Commons Assistant Director (Current Employee) says

"TCC has been considered a great place to work in comparison to other major employers in the area. One of the major issues that I encountered was that fact that many areas worked in silos."

Former Employee - Health Care Assistant says

"I worked at Tallahassee Community College full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Incompetent leadership. Lack of communication. Chronic understaffing. Do not provide quality instruction."

Former Employee - Web Developer says

"I worked at Tallahassee Community College full-time for more than 10 years Cons: In my case, my supervisor had never managed any employees and had no experience or education (was a music major) with project management. I was new to web development, and on day one was given ridiciously short deadlines (15 deliverables due on day one of the project). The projects I worked on were apps written by him, and he said, "if I can get 15 done in one day, than so should you." There was no documentation for any of his disorganized projects and his database design, was a disaster (numerous tables without primary keys, 1st normal form), because he was completely self-taught. He failed to grasp the difference between a milestone, delivable, and action item, and failed to grasp agile. I spoke to my replacement, and he said the same thing, horribly bloated app and database design and implementation, extremely difficult to maintain, but the aesthetical aspects of the UI were good. I worked two 80 hour weeks to try to meet his last deadline, didn't make it, got into a long assertive discussion with him about project management, UML, software engineering process and practice, and what actually works, and was fired. Major jerk move here, he blocked my unemployment compensation, made up a bunch of slanderous things about me so my claim would be denied (as a result of me being very direct of what I thought of his project management competence). Looking back, getting fired from TCC was the best thing that happened to my career in the last 15 years, and several of my former co-workers said the same thing. I started working in the private sector, for a project manager with a computer science degree and a PMP, my projects are completed on time, and I doubled my salary. I don't get 8 weeks paid time off per year, I get three, but I'll take the salary over all the time off. Also, I have to do a 401k (I get matching), instead of the Florida Retirement System."
