Super Speed Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

USB 3.0 is the third major version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) standard for interfacing computers and electronic devices. Among other improvements, USB 3.0 adds the new transfer rate referred to as SuperSpeed USB (SS) that can transfer data at up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s), which is about 10 times faster than the USB 2.0 standard. It is recommended that manufacturers distinguish USB 3.0 connectors from their USB 2.0 counterparts by using blue color for the Standard-A receptacles and plugs, and by the initials SS.

User "aleg" complains about SuperSpeed USB 3.0 7-Port Hub on the "Amazon" website on May 9, 2012:

"At the time (one year ago) this seemed like the best deal out there. I needed a mix of USB 3 ports for external drives and drive caddies, plus a couple of ports for a mouse & printer that I left at my desk. Problem 1: if I boot with the SIIG hub attached, my notebook's fingerprint reader is blocked. Doesn't even show up in the hardware list. Unplug the hub & power cycle the notebook, and all works well. It's a poor-man's workaround. Problem 2: Now it's dead. This morning, no lights. Moved it to three different power outlets... nothing. It's not quite 12 months, and SIIG claims it has a 5-year warranty. Unfortunately, it's not an easy way to make a warranty claim. There is only an online form requiring you to look up everything and type it in manually. They can't take the microsecond to print "P/N" and "S/N" on the equipment and leave no clues on the form to decipher the information. I'd call it poor customer service, but I'd also blame manufacturing. What manufacturer would print multiple strings of numbers and letters, but leave no indication of their use? If yours dies too, the part number is JU-H70112-S1. The number in the middle is the serial number. I've babied this. It's always plugged into a UPS with power conditioning. The line voltage from the building is always between 119-121VAC. A power supply should last more than a year."
