State Farm Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback
State Farm is the largest property and casualty insurance provider in the Unites States of America. It is also the largest auto insurance provider in the United States. State Farm is ranked 36th in the 2019 Fortune 500 list. State Farm relies on exclusive agents (also known as captive agents) to sell insurance. Only State Farm agents can sell State Farm insurance, and their agents can sell only State Farm products. State Farm has expanded into the financial services arena, such as banking and mutual funds. The bank opened in May 1999 and is operated by State Farm Financial Services, FSB, a subsidiary of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. These are separate from its insurance products. State Farm Bank does not have branch offices. It has regular banking services, which include checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, and money market accounts. These are available to consumers countrywide via the Internet or over the phone, and through agents. Home mortgages are available countrywide over the phone or through agents.
Many of it's customers and State Farms former employees have lodged online complaints about this company. There is a pending class action suit by former employees in process as of 2019.
Agent Team Member (Former Employee) says"YAMA EBRAT was a horrible boss who is only doing the job for the money. He disrespects clients and employees and treat you like you aren't capable of doing the jobnoneno breaks, excessive workload"
Receiptionist/Service Associate (Former Employee) says"This was one of my worst jobs but it honestly depends on which agent you are working for. Because State Farm has individual agents you work under, each agent is different. I'm not allowed to say the name of the agent I worked for. I was hired as a "receptionist" but since I was a good worker my boss quickly started giving me more work to do that was outside of my job description. I was paid only $10 and hour and he had me daily doing the same work that his assistant manager was doing and she was paid twice as much as me. He wanted me to come in early and leave later without being paid for that time. He micromanaged us yet didn't know the answer to most questions you would ask him. He didn't care about us as people, to the point where if we had a family emergency or had to call off for being sick he would make us feel bad. Overall one of my worst jobs ever. NothingEverything"
Insurance (Former Employee) says"Typical day at work is horrible. Learned nothing. Management is horrendous. Culture is abusive. The job is not hard, the Company makes things hard. There is nothing enjoyable about the job. It's just a job for money. Nothing more to say."
Sales Representative (Former Employee) says"I started working with state farm last year with no experience at all. Upon getting hired things at the office seemed to be very up lifting and a very comfortable environment to work in. After a couple months of working there, the managers started acting very different as well as the agent. Mangers were very money hungry and unwilling to give any type of training and had no type of patients with employees or the customers. The agent I worked for was rudely unprofessional and a very toxic person over all. There were many occasions when illegal actions were preformed in the office. There was no sense of communication nor organization. All they did was tell you what you want to hear. I would not recommend working for a State Farm Agents Office.NoneOver worked with little pay"
Underwriting Service Assistant (Former Employee) says"Very horrible toxic work environment. The only good thing was going home at the end of the day. Management sucks and will not help you at all and you get fired for stupid stuff. It needs to be a open Investigtion at the state farm in Richardson in the underwriting dept because what they are doing is not right at all.Lunch, Breaks, Going homeEverything"
Customer Service Specialist (Former Employee) says"The agent I worked for never gave anything a chance, she changed it up every month. Commission was a joke, she always found a way around it! Then when she couldn’t afford to pay employees anymore, she would fire them. Always hiring just to pay the minimum, instead of keeping people around who know how to operate the business on a daily basis."
Licensed Auto Claims Associate (Former Employee) says"High stress, no life job. You are just a number. Too much work load for what they pay you. Very strict ball and chain to you desk. Negative job....... All calls are negative...brings you down.NoneEverything"
Insurance Sales Representative (Former Employee) says"I did not receive the proper training. I feel like the insurance Takes advantage of there policy holders. My training was very unprofessional in the office, Felt as though the girl who was helping me didn’t care if I learned anything or not. She was better at communicating with The other coworkers. I am a team player and want to work for a Company that cares about their employees and customers."
Scheduler (Former Employee) says"A typical day would involve completing as many forms available for that day. Not having enough forms to complete within a day. Thankfully they had onsite programs to allow for individual growth. Management doesn't have people skills. They don't allow the front-line workers to contribute real ideas to common problems. Bullying, retaliation, and discrimination, is apart of the workplace culture. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the behaviors of management that allowed bullying, retaliation, and discrimination. I enjoyed being around the people. They cared about doing there jobs right. Would offer assistance and help when asked. Who all needed fair wages, health benefits and time off. Some were working more than one job to make ends meet.Onsite programs, potential raisewages, benefits"
Claims (Former Employee) says"Horrible management, not a family flexible company, has so much favoritism, horrible training. They create new things and don’t teach you how to do them, do not pay enough for the work you have to do. Do not recommend."
Sales, Advising, Marketing (Former Employee) says"Never work here. They will violate almost every ethical code in insurance. There are plenty of other insurance companies that will treat you better and have better benefits."
Insurance Sales and Customer Service (Former Employee) says"Watch who you work for. If employees in sales are not monitored, you get to fix all of their problems. Seems like all they want to do is sell and never talk to the customer again in one location. It may be different with another agent."
Account Manager, Bank Representative, Raleigh (Former Employee) says"The owner agent I worked for was terrible. Seriously one of the worst jobs I ever had. She cons you inti believing you can make money. Refused to give us anything but 5 year old leads and expected 60 hr weeks but complained we worked over time."
Auto ILR Claims Atlanta,Ga (Current Employee) says"Hired in the department did the training remotely the trainer did what I call speed training. They where also extremely rude.SF set us up for failure!"
Claims Specialist, Account Manager & Customer Service (Former Employee) says"Cold calling is all i can say. I hated this position. I was led to believe cold calling would not be a part of this position. They expected me sit on the phone all day and call random people and get yelled at."
Agency Owner & Producer (Former Employee) says"Too much work and investment for too little return and risk. Money sounds good upfront, but you will lose your shirt in the first few years, if you make it past there year one threshold/evaluation. You are never truly independent, as their sales leaders hound you and your staff day in and day out for increased production. Awful company.."
Owner (Former Employee) says"An extremely unfair and unpleasant experience. Horrible culture with unfair practices regarding who does and does not get a permanent contract. Poor leadership and training teams."
Catastrophe Claims Adjuster (Former Employee) says"No career advancement. No support for going back to school. No place for your kids to go while you work. Pay is low. Hours are long. Work is monotonous. Benefits are expensive. Standing out for all the right reasons can (and will) get you fired. First level leadership is unqualified. Expectations are unrealistic. Overall, if there is nothing else to do, go find something else."
Administrative Assistant (Former Employee) says"If you are an agent then you will love this job and make great money. If that is your goal then by all means, get an entry lever job at any office. Every other employee is a bottom line. No loyalty or appreciation."
Agent (Former Employee) says"this company is a ship with a broken rudder manamgent has taken over when an agent did better the company is failing the policyholders by handling too much. the agent was so much better."
MT says"If need to use their website for anything it brakes often. I would recommend you get insurance someplace else."
Victor Castillo says"I had a basic repair for my car (there was damage to the driver side wheel). The shop I took it to said they could fix it in a day. Two weeks later I still do not have my car. Although I stated when I called to enter the claim the damage was on the driver side and the paperwork I have from the auto shop states the driver side damage was the reason I went to the shop, the claims adjuster told the auto shop to fix the passenger side (this is a used car and the passenger side wheels had scratches so he assumed that was damage for the claim). When I was informed of this I called State Farm and told them the claim was supposed to be for the driver side wheel damage. He said I would have to enter a separate claim in order to fix the driver side which means I would have to pay another deductible. I asked why would I have to pay another deductible if I was not the one who made a mistake? I was told by the Claims Supervisor that is my problem and I would have to take it up with the auto shop. The Claims Supervisor and my Insurance Agent also told me that the auto shop sent in claim for the passenger side wheels and after that was approved, they tried to send in another claim for the driver side wheel damage and that is what started the issue. The representative at the auto shop denies doing this. He sent in 1 claim stating everything that needed to be repaired. The representative at the auto shop called the State Farm Claims Supervisor and at that time the Claims Supervisor denied ever stating that 2 claims were sent and is still requiring another claim to be filed in order for the original repair to take place. So it is 2 weeks later and I still do not have my car and the original reason for the claim has not been fixed because State Farm is insisting that I file an additional claim. I have tried calling the Claims Supervisor back but calls go straight to his voicemail. My State Farm agent is not taking my calls and he referred me the claims phone number via text. I called the President and Owner of State Farm I tried to explain my situation but he did not want to listen to my situation and told me to call my agent and hung up. Long story short, I took my car in to the auto shop for driver side damage. Due to miscommunication from State Farm, prior minor existing damage to the passenger side was repaired. State Farm now wants me to file an additional claim and pay another deductible in order to get the original repair completed. DO NOT USE STATE FARM!"
Alan Jones says"I have had State Farm for 20.years and never filed a home owners claim. Unfortunately I had to file one about 6 weeks ago. Worst claims specialist, Lynne Neal, that you could imagine. Worst service and attitude from an insurance company. Stay away from them if you want a quick, drama free experience. If you like grief and bs go with them"
James Hammond says"Horrible experience dealing with a totaled truck. Complete rip off company. To long of a story to go into. U"
J. Magee says"DO NOT PURCHASE A POLICY FROM STATE FARM FOR HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE!! I have been a loyal policy holder for 5yrs. I submitted a claim on 9/9/20 for a small amt of water damage in my master bdrm. Leaky roof. Adjustor scheduled for 9/20/20. Hurricane Sally projected to hit my city on 9/14/20, I contact adjustor, explain that I am concerned my house will possibly suffer more damage due to the projected path of the storm. Adjustor assures me not to worry, she is "trained to differentiate btwn old damage & new, storm damage". Hurricane Sally hits on 9/14/20, my home sustains more damage - Adjustor visits on 9/20/20. Adjustor determines damage to be "old" & are part of "homeowner maintenance" = CLAIM DENIED. I hire a public adjustor. 2nd inspection scheduled w/both public adjustor & State Farm adjustor for 12/05/20. 2nd State Farm adjustor calls me at 7:07 p.m. on a Saturday evening to tell he's "touching base w/me to be transparent, that my claim 'may possibly' be denied." He went on to say that due to the initial claim filed on 09/09/20, contained some of the same damage (duh!! ITS THE SAME HOUSE!!) it would likely be be denied. He made it VERY clear, that he is THE ONE who would be speaking on my 'behalf' to panel who has the final say on pay outs. He was completely uninterested & obviously bored listening to me (he kept repeating, uh-huh, uh-huh to EVERY WORD I said). When I asked him to explain why he thought my claim would be denied, he actually told me, "you wouldn't understand". Seriously...State Farm, you should be ashamed. Ask yourself, what kind of bonus did the CEO of State Farm make in 2020...& remember that they would not pay out $18K for storm damage to a public school employee's home."
David Lewis says"I, David Lewis am writing this letter to inform you of how dissatisfied and unhappy I am with the customer service associated with State Farm Insurance. I have been a customer since 2016 and pay in full and on time every month $1,500 for numerous insurance policies (12 active policies that cover multiple auto/vehicles, home, health, and other properties) with an excellent credit rating. I have spent well over $72k ($1,500/mo. x 12 mos.=$18,000/yr. x 4 yrs. = $72,000) on State Farm’s subpar services. I am a steelworker, my wife is a school teacher and we have 5 children. Sadly, I am also a homeowner and small business millennial who has been ripped off by State Farm Insurance Company. To begin with, I never received a claim payment for a no-fault accident on Claim #14-9906-xxx that was filed along with a police report (Incident #19L009xxx by Officer Z. Norcutt), which verified and confirmed the same no-fault status (see details attached). Sadly, I waited over 9 months for a payment from Chris Todd, Auto Claims Specialist that never came which meant I had to scrape together an extra $1,000 to pay for damages on my own (this does not include bodily injury, medical bills, deductibles, lost wages, etc.). This is unacceptable especially during a pandemic/COVID19 when finances are tight for most American households. Evidently, State Farm has failed to honor its contract with their customers. In addition, I had a roof damage Claim #14-09B0-xxx caused by wind damage that has not been adequately addressed, evaluated, or paid to me so I could replace and fix it. The cost of repairs for both the exterior and interior of the home is approximately $30k, but I have only received about $4,200 which does not even cover labor for a certified contractor. After speaking with Property Claims Specialist, Karesse Bradley, submitting the necessary paperwork along with photos to support my claim, and waiting an entire summer for the Property Insurance Adjuster, Jim Roberts who suggested patchwork, I still don’t have the funds to purchase the items needed to fix the entire leaky roof AND the interior rooms of the home. Consequently, the home will not pass inspection because it is not up to code. I did not sign up to pay over $1,500/per month to be in a constant battle over compensation for legitimate claims. BUYER BEWARE!!"
Terry A says"I have been a long term customer, I was impacted by hurricane Laura and Delta. Everyday I have had to call the claims department. I have had employees call me like they were a team leader and was not. I have had supervisors contact me and problem still not solved. The RV I’m having to stay in almost got took away because they didn’t pay. I have lost time on my job being on the phone for countless hours getting no where. It’s bad enough we are trying to get our home back live able and dealing with contractors and price gauging we also have to fight the claims department. They dropped the ball on customers in SWLA. I received another customer’s information from Florida in my packet and they act like it’s nothing. Worst experience I have ever had!"
Tatiana Shirokov says"Horrible company!!!!! Agents are lying and tricking the customers. One of them sale me insurance which covers nothing! And when I asked how it is possible, they lied to me. I am homeless now. NEVER NEVER use this company!!!!!"
Cassandra Castma says"STate farm is a horrible insurance company my dads car was hit while he was stopped at a red light, and he went through his insurance company for repair of his vehicle, because the guilty persons insurance was not resposnding so he figured he would let state farm legal team deal with them. State farm insurance company has given my father SO MUCH PUSH BACK, and has made me want to cry for him, state farm REFUSED TO PAY FOR A SUPPLEMENT CLAIM SUBMITTED BY dad autoshop AUTOBODY SHOP, it was a tug of war getting them to pay for a supplemental claim, his car has been in the shop since sept 22, 2020 waiting for state farm to decide what they are going to do. He has had a rental since sept 22, 2020, state farm said they are only paying 1000 dollars per my fathers policy max for a rental, he went to return my the rental car yesterday 11/6/2020 and state farm said the amount that has accrued after that 1000 they paid is my fathers responsibility (1,211.91 is what my father owes, and my father has fullll coverage with your company) they were not willing to meet us in the middle, alllllll the representatives and managers I spoke with told me us no one told my father return the car when he feels like it, today is 11/6/2020, state farm came back Monday to 11/2/2020 to state my fathers car is a total loss. The managers told me it's my father's fault for keeping the rental I told them he cannot afford to pay that, the rental company will not let my father return the car without payments. I ASKEDDD STATE FARM TO MEET ME IN THE MIDDLE WITH THE PAYMENT THEY HAVE REFUSED. LIKE A GOOD NEIGHBORRRR STATE FARM IS NOT THERE FOR ITS CUSTOMERS, my dad is left paying 1211.91 put of pocket for a decision state farm was on the fence about ,this is unjust and truly unfair and then for them to tell my father sorry there is nothing they can do for him, knowing I called state farm pretending to want a quote and ask them this question and they stated the claims department has the authority to extend to whom they want when it comes to negotiating the amount they will pay for a rental despite what is stated in the policy is ludicrous. This is my dads insurance company I will make my dads voice heard about the tug of war with this company, when you entrust big corporations it shows they really do not care about you and justt want your money. Cassandra Castma"
Shirley Powell says"If I were able to put double -10 I would Horrible experience Statefarm refuse to accept the incident report from the Police Department to determine fault (report supports my claim their insured driver is 100% liable) was told that they "ALWAYS believe their insured drivers""
Jeena Miller's says"I've never had an insurance company make the customer do so much foot work from being hit. I was slightly bumped on the left side, but enough to make scratches, dents and break a light with a car seat installed. I prefer to use a company i used before for the repairs on the car, so now i must get their estimate (understandable) as well as get state farms estimate which was severely under the place i went. Fine fine all dandy, on the car seat. I've ALWAYS been told to replace car seats after an accident as it could damage the structural integrity of said car seat... well... according to state farm, the state of VA does not require them to replace my car seat and three... THREE different reps told me that graco wouldn't know my seat has been in an accident if I wouldn't have called them, so i was pretty much screwed. With many calls to graco and many tears Graco was able to provide me written/photo proof in their manual that states the car seat HAS TO BE REPLACED, but not with out heavy sighs, heavy handed keyboarding, and telling me to find the car seat, screen shot it, and send the picture. Then the "provide me a Hertz car" which is a whole other story in itself."
Jay VeeBee says"State Farm is the worst company I have ever had the displeasure to endure. Their insured driver made an illegal left turn in a far right straightaway lane and my son collided with their rear quarter panel. The lying driver said my son REAR ENDED them, a blatant lie as damages indicate and State Farm denied liability in under 48 hours with no police report even written, no damages being assessed NOTHING. My insurance company is fighting them so we will see what happens. Best of luck to all the others here who have had similar experiences with them and I hope you all found new insurance providers that care about their customers!!!!"
Mase Driskell says"They are horrible. They insured my house then 3 years later ( recently ) there was a large hail storm. I noticed leaks coming in and filed a claim. the local rep was nice gave me 3 people they recommended to check it out and get quotes from. All 3 told me to file a claim that there was massive hail damage. I filed the claim after that and sent them the quote for the cheapest guy. He seemed nice and not like a salesman, very honest. They sent a guy who spoke no english out who flew a $40 drone over the roof and said "no hail" they denied it, I made them re-open it and send someone else out who didn't call and just "sometime" they "say" he showed up and he said the same thing to them.... I've had my mortgage that I paid off through them, insurance for 10+ years. The one time I need them to actually help me they do not. I now have rain pouring into my sons room and changing buckets out every time it rains and I am left trying to come up with 10K to get my roof replaced myself. I am going to let every single person on every single site I can find know how horrible this company is."
Karyn says"I would like to give less than 1 star-but this platform will not allow it. We have been a 30+ customer with this insurance company with zero claims. We stuck with this company for who knows why? We paid our bills on time and continued to renew our policies -no questions asked. We recently purchased a 2nd property and added that property. Shortly after escrow closed, our tenants noticed a leak from the refrigerator. We did have a home warranty ( which was great and covered the refrigerator) However, I can’t say the same about our so called homeowners insurance. Not only will they not cover any damage done to the floors, cabinets walls etc, for a zero paid “claim”... our rates have tripled and our deductible has gone from a prior $500 to a $5000 for the next 3 years!!! And that’s with all my insurance policies!!! This is with any and all insurance companies I decide to sign with... We now are considered “high risk!!” All for a zero dollar claim... UNBELIEVABLE!!! I could accept okay State Farm paid $50,000 to repair my house...They didn’t pay a stinking dime!!! What a racket! No wonder there’s so much fraud out there. You bring it all on yourselves."
Android Android says"Had a clear incident with a bathroom leak. The TOP bathroom's toilet was leaking UNDER the seal, so the floor started to soak. Then, the floor collapsed, which was the ceiling of the bottom bathroom. Total damages: about $1,200. Of which SF will not pay ONE CENT. Because in their clauses they specifically will not cover these type of events. Sure, it is in writing. But how come they do not cover this? Is it the owner's fault? What is the difference between a hidden item causing a fault or some other fortuitous event? As per their clause: "seepage or leakage of water, steam, or sewage that occurs or develops over a period of time". So, if you do not cover for things that happen over a period of time, then what good is the coverage for? That is basically the definition of INSURANCE: coverage for events that will happen, over a period of time. So, just remember. They are really not there. Maybe for Chris Paul when he gets a deer in his garage, but for us regular folks, they are no good neighbors. Even if the thing was in writing."
Originalgyp0 says"I have had my home, vehicles and personal property insured through state farm for 15yrs. I should have caught their very poor service when I put a claim in for roof damage after a storm. The cost was around $4,000, I can't remember exact numbers as it was along time ago and state farm gave me $1,300 so I ended up paying the difference myself. Recently I had $12,000 of personal property stolen. State farm gave me $3,200. How do you replace $12,000 worth of powertools with $3,200. I ended up losing a lot of work because I didnt have the money to buy what I needed to keep working. This company is an absolute disgrace and are ripping people off."
David M ZeBell says"got stuck with agent named Eric Kwiatkowski. he came by and took application for Life Insurance and he falsified the application. therefore, the policy was approved. I gave him the correct answer right in front of my security camera, but he lied anyway. I have told him several times that I did not want a policy based on a lie but he ignores me. trying to change to different agent for remaining policies."
aaarga LP Laws says"Honestly 2-star is being extremely generous when you've not answered a single call or an email. Everyone seems to be getting ripped off from you guys. Please avoid."
Emma says"State farm was a great bargain years ago. The prices skyrockets after an accident even if you're not at fault. The agents are great but it is so unaffordable now. I had to cancel the policy abd switch to Progressive"
