Riot Games, Inc. is an American video game developer, publisher, and esports tournament organizer based in West Los Angeles, California. The company was founded in September 2006 by University of Southern California roommates Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill, as they sought to create a company that continuously improves on an already released game, instead of commencing development on a new one. Riot Games was majority-acquired by Tencent in February 2011 and fully acquired in December 2015. As of May 2018, Riot Games operates 24 offices around the world, in which it employs 2,500 staff members.

An angry customer said this in a review "Horrible Player Base, and Riot does nothing about it. I honestly would rate Riot Games lower, but I can't. The biggest problem with league is its player base, and Riot doesn't do anything to solve the biggest problem in their game. Common sense right? Well Riot doesn't care. PLEASE FIX YOUR PLAYER BASE RIOT! IF YOU ENCOURAGE TOXICITY THEN ADD VOICE CHAT SO WE DON'T HAVE TO WASTE TIME TYPING."

"- toxic, extremely harmful culture for women/nbs, poc and those who don't play the game with the ol' boys club - lawsuits galore - sexual harassment left and right, especially from executives and skip levels - work/life balance is non-existent, and the great amenities help keep you there. (Lots of divorces happen because of this place.) - don't expect a title that reflects your actual skillset unless you're sleeping with someone, or are a man who knows how to trade on social currency. Riot likes to hire people who are overqualified and make them battle to the death for promotions"

"- The smart but inexperienced often get put in charge (if they're popular "yes" types) of the seasoned experienced people and subject matter experts, which leads to infinite cycles of grey hairs, screaming into the void, and tears. - Raising real concerns about issues when it directly calls into question decisions leaders make is a big no no. Quickest path to nowhere at Riot on most teams. - Riot can be pretty clique-y. - “Business Unit Leaders” / departmental heads battle with one another constantly and the CEO is too new and inexperienced to make calls to rectify problems. - Prepare yourself for lots of politics. - Finding anything (assets, knowledge, etc...) in the company requires Sherlock Holmes level investigative techniques. - A group of original people who started at Riot with minimal outside experience have been promoted to director/VP levels - They are pretty much immune to being fired, short of being the subject of an expose by a journalist. They are entrenched. Some of them are bullies. Some of them have no social skills. Some of them are grossly incompetent people who only surround themselves with "yes" people. Some of them create or have created highly toxic workplaces. "good ol boys club" mentality is still in full swing at Riot, even if they're not sexually harassing people anymore. - Riot doesn't do a great job at aligning goals from the front lines up to the CEO. There is no OKR type system, so things can get really messy and confusing. - The "product" and "delivery" disciplines are in charge of everything, yet they are the most unorganized group at the company. - HR/Talent is a dysfunctional organization. They are not your friend and they are not invested in YOU as an employee. They are purely there to reduce liability for Riot. They operate in total secrecy. They report to a department leader, not to someone in charge of HR which is an inherent conflict of interest. Don't trust them. - Culturally, you will be expected to “be positive”. It reminds me a lot of Theranos or the Fyre festival. (Watch those documentaries, they're good!). This comes at the expense of leaders finding out what’s really wrong with products or teams and doing things about it. Or if they know, they don't care to change. The majority of the time, most concerns or problems have the feeling of being “swept under the rug”. - If a leader is at fault, problems are usually not addressed without anything short of a public outcry. This often creates a secret toxic environment you should be very aware of. A lot of leaders within Riot want "Yes" people, not people who challenge their thinking or raise issues. If you want an example of this, Riot's sexual harassment culture didn't change until a string of Kotaku articles embarrassed leadership publicly enough for them to change things. This is endemic to Riot's senior leadership across so many fronts, its hard to count. - Steer clear of IPC (IP Creative, formerly known as CDev and IPSD - they've had to re-brand themselves several times. Make of that what you will.) They’re completely dysfunctional, have incompetent and abusive leaders, and will cause you a lot of pain. You will walk away with serious scar tissue if you work there. Their reputation is infamous within the company. - Steer clear of international publishing. It's a huge mess. There is constant infighting between all of the departmental leaders across Riot."

"Riot went through a hyper growth phase where hiring decisions were very rushed; this resulted in a wide band of talent, very hit or miss. If you're lucky to have a good manager, you're good to go, otherwise, you'll find that your passion for the product, the company, and the industry will quickly disappear. A lot of managers have never been managers before, and some are afraid that the people they're managing will overtake them or make them look stupid, so a lot of brilliant talent end up finding other opportunities, leaving only the insecure managers and resulting in a cyclical decline in talent density."

"Riot made some impressive breakthroughs in early days. (Game as a service, esports, talent-focused value). Sadly, like many successful companies that failed (Blackberry, Nokia), Riot leadership team builds up a big ego and hasn’t been humble and lived up to the manifestos. Bad management, silo teams with overlapping responsibilities, one of the worst compensation system as such a sizable company, inexperienced and bro mgmt team (D20). A CEO who never manages a company, a CTO who didn’t understand work place is not ur frat There are always plenty of excuses not to try new things. Fears of failure result in no new games after so many years and countless missed opportunities. Just because you don’t know how to do it or you are afraid to fail is not the reason to stop new ideas. No strategy nor vision because the management team doesn’t know how to do it and never did it before. (First time! ). Companies who can’t continue inventing and being humble always fail. Riot is going on that path with the current leadership team."

"I loved coming to work and every challenging project that was given to the team. I learned a spectrum of skills from creating PO's for finance, creating guidebooks, workplace safety and guidelines, security, IT, Leadership skills, construction, and so much more. Management for my department specifically has never had a "safe" environment and felt like a shark tank. The team members pulled together to exceed expectations of the services we provided and we managed to achieve successful operations without the guidance of Leadership or Direct Managers. The hardest part about the job is that any problem or challenge can arise with no moments notice and may involve time sensitivity or impacting situations. "I honestly loved the advertised culture, but Riot has changed a lot in the past couple years. There is very little room to advance, and in general, the company doesn't seem to have a solid vision or strategy for where it wants to be in the next year or two. "I Think you should reconsider your perma banning policy. In my case, my account was banned a year ago now, because of “verbal abuse”, I Got banned at a time where I was dealing with some personal problems. However I feel like I have changed a lot in the last year, and I would really like to start playing LOL again. Therefor I would really love for my account to get unbanned I can’t see any reasson to why this shouldn’t be possible, afterall I can just create another account anyway."

"Riot Games has done nothing but being a greedy trash bag company ever since Mark Merrill and Brandon Beck sold their soul to the shitty company that is Tencent. I\'ve been addicted to this game for 5 years and got banned for a single \" STFU Trash \" when my last suspension was 300 games ago. Thank god this happened because it relieved me and made me realise how much of a waste of a time League is. - Shitty Buggy Client and ingame experience. - No Voice Chat for NO VALUABLE REASON. - Terrible Balance Team and Champion Designing Team that does change for the sake of change, which is a terrible thing that completely ruined the game. - They Hard Punishing Flame ( that doesn\'t even impact the gameplay that much, especially when you can just mute someone ) WHILE doing NOTHING about all the gameplay ruining behavior such as Intentional AFK, Trolling, Intentionally Feeding, WinTrading, Boosting, Smurfing, Etcetera. They just can\'t accept that League is a sportive game and there is bound to be some toxicity at some point, it\'s part of it. Big Thumbs up to Riot Korea on this part, they are the only ones who understood that and won\'t ever perma ban you for simple Toxicity. I just cannot wait to see this disgusting company fall to the ground, because it\'s bound to happen eventually."
