Penske Automotive Group, headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, is an international transportation services company that operates automotive and commercial truck dealerships principally in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe, and distributes commercial vehicles, diesel engines, gas engines, power systems and related parts and services principally in Australia and New Zealand.


A former employee unleashes the fury with 6 reasons why Penske Automotive sucks:

1. You have to constantly watch your pay check to make sure you're being paid right (Either the business office staff flunked out of 4th grade algebra or Penske is getting those dividends up off people who don't pay attention to their checks) I'm not even kidding it's almost never right.

2. Extreme Favoritism: It's shameless and obvious. There is no such thing as an equal playing field at any company, but here it's like they take pride in making sure you know it in the most obvious and extreme way possible. they don't give people the tools they need to succeed unless you're one of the chosen ones.

3. Management is weak and/or non-confrontational. The managers that DO know what they are doing are not getting paid enough and are checked-out, those that don't know are just happy to have a job at all because they are so lazy and/or stupid. They employ mindless puppets that NEED a job, no one Wants to be here.

4. Turnover is HIGH because once people get in they almost never want to stay (unless they are said chosen ones), and since Penske doesn't pay well and their benefits are laughable at best they are open to just about anything else

5. The benefits here are TERRIBLE, You'd be better off socking the money away in a savings account and paying full retail for any medical procedure it's just that bad.

5. They recently cut the new and pre-owned Managers pay by 23%, and the Pre-owned Sales staff Commission by 50%. They did this without any notice, and a cliche "times are tough" speech one hot afternoon (within 2 weeks i saw an announcement that Penske Dividends were at an all time high...).

6. You are expected to work 7 days a week, at any hour, on a rotating schedule that changes monthly and seems to have little or no correlation to what is necessary.

I'll stop there because this could go on forever but yeah... I wouldn't wish this upon anyone save a last resort to keep yourself afloat while you look for better prospects elsewhere.

"Crap pay plan the management plays favorites some people are allowed to work 35 hours a week while others are required to work 45-50 while doing the same job. They don’t care about how things looks unless the EVP is coming down for a visit then all of a sudden the bushes are getting trimmed. They talk about internal advancement but it’s a complete lie at least in RI."

"So I work for CarSense which is owned by Penske. What a disaster of a work environment. The sales people haven’t been given a raise in over a decade they’re still using the same pay plan from 10 years ago at least. You get one vacation day your first year and only 8 day the second year. They don’t even have the decency to give you 2 full weeks your second year. The finance department is a train wreck. They’re constantly at one another’s throat and belittle the sales people. The new CEO told us if we want to raise we should sell more cars. Novel idea. I’m already working over 50 hours a week and sell almost 30 cars per month how about you pay us more per car since you haven’t changed it in over 10 years. Or here’s another idea how about you pay us for the first seven cars we sell. They actually do not pay you for the first seven cars you sell in the and next 8 through 14 they only give you $100 per car. The place is a joke. You cannot earn a livable wage to raise a family unless you put in 50 to 60 hours per."

"You will learn that most of the management has been there for some time. How some have obtained their position is questionable just based on their lack of knowledge and experience. Management often shows favoritism to certain individuals."

"Though your co-workers are very friendly and they can make it a decent place to work management totally wipes out any good feelings. Employees are bullied by Service Management and the GM does nothing about it. You are denied lunch hours due to appointment scheduling. Asked to work bell to bell on a daily basis, except of course if you have a personal relationship with management then you can do basically anything you want. Basically management makes it a toxic place to work. "Management is nice when interviewing however after about a month be prepared to be scolded like a child on a regular basis. Your paycheck is out of your control, they make it impossible to bring home a decent paycheck after you work close to 60 hours a week. CSI is all they are concerned about nonetheless they make it unfesable to make good CSI. Advisors are at the bottom of the totem pole here. There is no one from HR in the building ever !!!! They claim to have a open door policy which is a joke. Penske should stop opening new stores and concentrate on what's really going on in his stores today.Can't think of oneWay to many hours, no home life."

"Pay is super low for advisors, they will have you do loaners and cashiering as well for no extra pay.. your check is closely tied to CSI and the targets are unrealistic.. hours extremely long.. do not expect work/life balance. Typical dealership life.. work lots of hours, little vacation.. you'll make more at McDonalds working all of those hours.. you don't get paid on parts even though you are the one selling them.. Go elsewhere.. try Chick-fil-A or something..Nice building, free Saturday lunch..Regional VP is a Dictator with dinosaur thought process."

"lack of equipment, building repairs needed hazardous cond. Very clicky shop. They judge you. A- techs do brakes and leave the diag. work and the hard work for others. they get all the certifications from class and do easy work all day. Brakes and tune-ups. They call a lot of meetings for what they want. never call a meeting to listen to our complaints. And or needs or opinions. Very disorganized place to work.I left there I took a pay cut just to get out."
