Palm Beach Daily News Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

The Palm Beach Daily News is a newspaper serving the town of Palm Beach in Palm Beach County in South Florida. It is also known as "The Shiny Sheet" because of its heavy, slick newsprint stock. It was founded in 1897 as the Lake Worth Daily News, and it covers the news and social affairs of the residents on the island of Palm Beach itself. Previously owned by Cox Enterprises, it has been a sister publication of The Palm Beach Post since 1948, when Florida newspaper owner John Perry, owner of The Post, bought the Daily News as well. Cox acquired all of Perry's properties in the Palm Beaches in 1969. Virginia-based Gannett currently owns the newspaper.

On October 31, 2017, Cox Media Group announced its plans to sell the Palm Beach Daily News and Palm Beach Post.In 2018, it was announced that GateHouse Media would buy the newspapers for $49.25 million, with the deal closed in May.

A former employee said this in a review “In Palm Beach Daily News you are overworked and used until you are sick of it. Horrible pay for younger workers--not even enough to live on. New company that owns these papers can care less about their employees. Benefits are too expensive and not good."

Former Employee - Sales says

"I worked at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post full-time for more than 3 years Cons: No appreciation for employees from upper management."

Current Employee - Sales says

"I have been working at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post full-time for more than 3 years Cons: Where do I start? People are promoted not because they're qualified, but whether or not they are in the right 'clique'. Middle & upper management have NO clue what's going on in the trenches (we grunts pay their fat salaries) Micro-managers create a HORRIBLE work environment-Upper management is always singing the blues (financially) yet they find the $$ to upgrade software & phone systems that cost millions of dollars when the old systems worked just fine."

says

"I have been working at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post Cons: Baffling culture, terrible communication, embittered employees. People assigned to management positions that don't understand what they're doing or how to begin doing their job. No chance for promotion or raises. Constant fear of layoffs. Downsizing is the new way to keep the company in the black, ultimately hurting the product in print and online."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post full-time for more than 5 years Cons: Bloated, overpaid upper and middle management. Most of these folks are the publisher's longtime buddies and will enjoy protected status as long as he's there. Used to be one of the country's best newspapers of its size; now it's hardly even relevant. Based on the new owner's history, more downsizing is on the way sooner rather than later."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post full-time for more than 10 years Cons: Daily stress. Every time a manager approaches a worker, everyone wonders ‘layoff?’ Promotions are based on cliques, not merit. Website is awful click-bait."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post full-time Cons: Trying to do too much with not enough people, especially on the digital side -- they kill positions in key digital departments, but not work. As a result, they overwork some of the best people in the building -- they are getting dangerously close to having these good people leave."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post full-time for more than 8 years Cons: The workload continues to increase seemingly every month while resources slowly dwindle. The people who actually do the dirty work are burned out or hanging on to hope that eventually things will get better. Upper management has gotten a little better in recent years, but still plays favorites too often."

Former Employee - Digital Team Member says

"I worked at Palm Beach Daily News & Palm Beach Post full-time for more than 8 years Cons: Local leadership team is in way over their head. Promotions over te last 10 years have been to freinds and family. Only management has a secure position as they blame their failures on productionb and the sales staff. Too much credence has been given to outside consultants and quick fix slashers who come in and peddle their strategy to a desparate C Level core so that a "plan" can be reported to Corporate in Atlanta and time can be bought. There is no loyalty below C Level and middle management. No job is safe no matter the lenght of tenure. If they want you gone a plan will be implemented that you can not acheive and you have no recourse. You will be walked out the door. I have see almost 1000 (yes that is correct and not an exaggeration) employees let go since my tenure. No longer are severance payouts given to non management positions. When your time is up, you will be walked out the door. No lie, every 2 years for the last 10 years a new VP of sales has come in, slashed the existing workforce in an effort to bring in "new talent" only to fail because the challenge is with upper management and their inability to react with market conditions and rrefuse to pay talented sales staff what their worth. And don't even think about voiciong your opinion or questioning manangement... you will be next to get a "plan" and face termination."
