Ozy (styled OZY) is an international media and entertainment company launched in September 2013 by former CNN and MSNBC news anchor, journalist, and businessman Carlos Watson and Goldman Sachs alumnus Samir Rao. Ozy describes its mission as to help curious people see a broader and a bolder world. Its headquarters is in Mountain View, California, and it also has an office in New York City.

There is no concept of work/life balance and you can expect to receive emails and texts at all hours and on weekends. If you want to work for a company where you are respected as a person with a life outside of work, look elsewhere."

Huge vision and talk but no execution across any departments that empower teams to actually succeed and meet goals. Micromanagement from both founders who don't hire enough people and also do not trust anyone to do their jobs. Turnover is ridiculous including key leadership positions. Company is a joke."

The co-founders not only work their employees down to the bone, but they also have zero sympathy for personal tragedies. Had a miscarriage? Did your family member die? Well, too bad. You won't get any time off, or even a "sorry" for your troubles. Turnover is abnormally high these days -- OZY used to be a high-achieving, nimble, diverse team with mentors who cared deeply about nurturing reporters and creating colorful, compelling stories across the globe. But now, that's not the case. If you're looking to grow as a writer, this isn't the place for you since there is a dearth of high-quality editors. Currently, OZY.com is ridden with ads and sponsored content - with editorial decisions based on the purchasing power of advertisers and the sway of investors. Farewell, journalistic integrity. You can forget the startup perks too; the cofounders are tightfisted with salary and stock options, a problem that's even more pressing in the Bay Area, the most expensive place to live in America. Everyone from the engineers to the lowly entry level reporters are paid peanuts, compared to industry standards. Telecommuting and working remotely is strongly discouraged, and in most cases, not allowed. The two cofounders are not at all transparent and often fire employees at whim. Team morale is at an all-time-low. After three years, OZY should hum like a well-oiled machine. But instead, this startup is still sputtering. It pains me to say that the OZY experiment is doomed to fail."

Spending 2 hour meetings and demanding that people say good things about the company is just one small example of the cult atmosphere. The fake positive reviews here too. Screaming at employees. No one is ever good enough and work/life balance does not exist at all. Pathological. Also no career advancement. Avoid if you're smart."

Sure hours are long and expectations high but that's any media company."
Former Employee - Employee says"I worked at OZY full-time for more than a year Cons: noisy, unproductive and messy office environment management does not trust employees micromanagement is rampant inefficiency is rampant management is indecisive, but when decisions are made they are often revisited lack of accountability is rampant founders won't accept that the content is inferior, does not go viral, and is often offensive founder is bipolar, throws tantrums, yells at staff, is demanding and abusive hours are very, very long and employees expected to work weekends unreasonable expectations telecommuting is discouraged management does not trust employees employees have no ownership, no authority employees are not respected or valued for their areas of expertise bills are not paid on time, including vendors, contractors, interns, employee expenses management often tries to renegotiate costs after services are rendered no 401k match no life insurance non negotiable 2 weeks of PTO per year, includes vacation and sick, and they make you feel very guilty if you ask to take any kind of time off, including asking you to cancel your vacation no HR department there is no opportunity for promotion or advancement, in fact you're lucky if you get to keep your job at all if I could give ZERO stars for work/life balance, I would the way the management is running this place and the way they treat their employees, this company is not going to succeed you do not want to work here, you really do not"
