Northern Trust Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Northern Trust Corporation is a financial services company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois that caters to corporations, institutional investors, and ultra high net worth individuals. It is one of the largest banks in the United States and one of the oldest banks in continuous operation. As of December 31, 2018, it had $1.07 trillion in assets under management and $10.13 trillion in assets under custody. Northern Trust Corporation is incorporated in Delaware.

The company has offices in 20 US states and locations across 23 countries in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region. It is ranked 486th on the Fortune 1000 as of February 2019.

Northern Trust sucks and most of the employees that work there won't last for long. A disgruntled employee writes "Shocking company to work for. Very poor salary. Salary is not in line with the cost of living. Salary increases can be less than E2K. Management is terrible. Take little interest in the development of employees. If you raise a query about salary, you just get ignored. Employees treated like dirt. There are nepotism and politics ongoing in terms of promotions offered. Everything about the company is miserly. Don't go near the place unless you are badly stuck for a job."

Current Employee - Analyst says

"brainless and repetitive/mundane work, overworked, below market pay, no incentive, no room for growth, clients are disrespectful and blame issues on the team. There's a reason NT hires entry level/college grads, they refuse to hire qualified individuals. They rather pay employees below market value to do mundane and brainless work."

Current Employee - Consultant says

"Run away! Do not work here; you'll be underpaid, overworked, and unappreciated. Good to note also that this company employees people charged with felonies! (you can find more about it with the recent riots). So thats good to know especially working for a BANK! This company cares only about diversity , outsourcing, and underpaying. It is all a facade as its a garbage company nowadays. Good talent shouldn't bother looking here."

Former Employee - Senior Analyst says

"This company is a joke. The HR is a joke. Everyone there hates working there. Management is inappropriate and unhelpful. There were 22 people in my department when I stared and in 6 months there were 6 including myself. I walked out on a random Friday. The best decision I ever made."

Current Employee - Consultant says

"Northern Trust is where careers go to die. If you care about your career, please don't come here. The managers here are totally incompetent. I have never seen such a terrible workplace. The worst dept is Corporate Actions. Everyone I speak with is looking to quit. Bonuses and raises are way below average (and less than what they tell you in interviews) - this is why they pay bonuses in April - this way they force people to stay longer than they really wanted to. Outdated computer systems that always crash. No one is ever promoted. All managers come from outside - unless you've been with the company when they merged with a division from Citadel many years ago. Management is completely clueless as to the work. No idea how to lead a team. Revolving door of employees. Everyone is looking to quit. Also, the managers lie about everything just for CYA purposes. The technology is the worst in the industry - old and in the 3+ years, I've been here, it has never been updated. Management doesn't do anything; however, if you make a mistake, this is an opportunity for them to actually do some work - which is to attack you. Prepare yourself for 200+ emails every single day - not a joke. You don't have to believe me. Join the company and you will see for yourself. There are people who quit NT without a job because they are that miserable - I'm at that point now."

Fund Accountant says

"Pay is terrible Hours are the worst, most days you wait around for things to be priced with pushed/no ETA Bonus is minuscule Managers are so out touch with performance levels and have favorites Most task do NOT lead to transferable skills Cannot vacation: at the end of any month, First 5 business days of any month Limited to 5 days in DECEMBER & NONE in JANUARY HORRIBLE training Honestly this job is a nightmare If desperate take the job OTHERWISE RUNNNNN"

Current Employee - Fund Accountant says

"The least capable people are promoted as they are the only ones that stay long enough to receive those promotions. Do not rock the boat, you will be blacklisted."

Current Employee - Manager says

"Leadership is dishonest about adding US jobs. Most of the IT workforce being added are on visas. Rest of the jobs are outsourced to Indian consulting companies. Full time workforce is being added in India. Looks like this is a anti US jobs company."

ETF Client Services, Consultant (Former Employee) says

"I was unfortunate enough to be in a role my last year that I did not enjoy. The company and job did not suit my personality and skill set. Management talked a lot about change and diversity but never actioned any of it."

Operations Supervisor (Current Employee) says

"Northern Trust does not value people, it is not an inclusive environment. Management does not support people and career growth. Too much concentration on off shoring."

Project Manager (Former Employee) says

"Being an IT Project Manager at NTB will surely make the IT PM appreciate working a similar role at ANY other company; the grass is greener at any other company. Managers are only there to advance their career, they do not support the PMs but rather use PMs to throw under the bus when others do not pull their own weight. Work loads are crazy busy and unrealistic. You will be treated as a work horse and expected to work crazy hours; someone sends you and email at 2am then you better have all work required to reply to it and apply to it by 8am, same day. Do not work here, at least not as a PM in IT, if you have any self respect."

Client Service Representative (Former Employee) says

"Poor Management team in IMLG. This department was very political. Never recognize for hard work or dedication. The Department manager has less than a High School education. The team leader has a job history working in BEST BUY on the sale floor. They have no management skills or people skills. The Northern Trust Company needs to revemp the staff. Upper manager walks right by you and do not speak. This is not a good department to work in. Work load is extremely HIGH sometimes you have to eat at your desk due to high demand. No work life balance."

FXA Analyst (Former Employee) says

"Bad turn overs always worry about being fired each day because management plays favorites WORSE Hob ever! All they do each day is find something to yell at you and treat you like a dog."

Co-op education (Former Employee) says

"Terrible experience here. I was taken on for Co-op education and I received no training and very little help during my time here. It was my first role in a accounting firm and it completely turned me off the line of work I was studying for."

A high ranking employee (Current Employee) says

"Cultural environment is spectacular, but is merely a facade hiding the result of NT reaping the benefits of the low pay scale that certain demographics are willing to accept. Unfortunately I am one of them (but not for much longer). Negotiate your salary as high as you can on the way in because that's as good as it will ever get at NT."

Senior Analyst Fund Accountant (Former Employee) says

"Great foot in the door. Didnt see long term with the company but it helped transition into better position. Company wok culure is very outdated. Great entry level."

"Horrible working conditions, horrible tax planning. Upper level management incapable of following through on continuous improvements and rewarding employees for developing more efficient ways of working. Would not work here again and do not advise any one with experience to work here...nonelong hours, poor pay rates, no recognition and poor benefits"

Senior fund accountant (Former Employee) says

"Stay clear of this company as the culture there is to work all hours even through lunch breaks to meet deadlines which are overwhelming at times ;no appreciation for working long hours and hard work and where career advancement is non existent. Weak management that look their nose down on you and offer no support whatsoever . No wonder there is a very high turnover of staffHealthcare benefitsLow pay, long hours and weak managers"

Global Foreign Exchange Analyst (Current Employee) says

"Probably the worst company I've have ever worked for in regards to Foreign exchange department. It is so unorganized, there is little to no room for career advancement. IF YOU HAVE 5-7 PLUS YEARS OF EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE NORTHERN IT MAYBE MORE ATTRACTIVE BUT if you are looking to start your career in finance this is not the place. managers get inferior to those who can do there job at a faster and more efficient rate. There is a lack of willingness to learn in this department. They are beyond sensitive in cash ops. and are very emotional where to be completely honest you need to leave your emotions at the door when your dealing in such a volatile and time sensitive market. Pay is horrendous, at all levels in foreign exchange operations... severely under paid. a bit embarrassing to say the least. This department does not embrace change very well and has a horrible learning curve issue. It;s said when some parts of management have no clue how to do your own job and is not really willing to learn."

Analyst (Former Employee) says

"Poor pay .massive staff turnover.seriously overworked till stressed and you leave.poor training and severe constant monitoring.Management culture dismissive of staff turnover as a employers market at the minute.WarmLong hours/poor pay/zero staff amenities/one shop for 500 plus staff."
