As of 2019, the New York metropolitan area is estimated to produce a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of $2.0 trillion. If greater New York City were a sovereign state, it would have the 12th highest GDP in the world. New York is home to the highest number of billionaires of any city in the world.
DoneWithNYC says"This place simply sucks. It\'s nostalgic for crime, it\'s become overrun with chain restaurants that have destroyed all the small businesses that made it unique. the density is way too high, it\'s impossible to get around, the sell-your-car-and-ride-a-bike crowd have pretty much ruined transportation options for anyone outside of Manhattan, and everything is a surveillence state. High taxes, high cost of living, no freedoms, everything fun has been banned or shuttered. People are miserable all the time, there is no sense of community, and the only time anyone talks to you is when they want something from you (usually money). Crime is rising again like the 90s, and quality of life is at an all time low. I lived here for 34 years...I remember when it sucked the first time, it got better, started to overshoot the mark, then got nostalgic for when it sucked again, so now it sucks again. Unfortunately this time all the fun things that made the crime almost tolerable the first time are simply gone. I moved and you couldn\'t pay me to come back."
