NRG Energy, Inc. is a large American energy company, dual-headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey and Houston, Texas. It was formerly the wholesale arm of Northern States Power Company (NSP), which became Xcel Energy, but became independent in 2000. NRG Energy is involved in energy generation and retail electricity.

One of the customers of NRG Energy wrote feedback, "BEWARE of this company!!! NRG will promise to save you money and at first you will. But they will then change your account to "variable" and before you know it you will be paying DOUBLE or more. I contacted my previous supplier, Penelec and inquired about their rate. (the company NRG promised to be cheaper than) They quoted me a rate of HALF what I am currently paying with NRG. When I called to cancel the operator said that after 3 months my account went to variable and that yes I was paying a much higher rate. WOW....pretty much blatant theft right there. DO NOT fall for their sales pitch. This company is corrupt in their business practices and has infuriated many customers according to their reviews. I wish I had known before I made the switch but they caught us at Walmart where I couldn't fact check them. They tell you how they want to save you money and why wouldn't you switch? Nice sales pitch but unfortunately it is NOT TRUE!"

"I worked at NRG Energy full-time for less than a year Cons: You're a number despite what they verbally say, If you don't meet your number quota in the time frame they want (about 2 months) then you will be put on disciplinary action especially if there was even one mistake that put you on their bad side, management can be fickle if you get on their bad side in any way, low compensation payout for sales, it is a call center so keeping your average call handle time below or at the 7 minute mark for every day is extremely important to your scorecard not the quality of service provided to customer, cannot actually "care" about each customer or their situation because your job will be on the line especially in this COVID situation, Management and senior management push for going above and beyond for customers yet give zero wiggle room for time or sometimes opportunities (give extension overrides/etc) to do so, the company talks a good talk but they do not walk the walk when it comes to following through on the opportunities/care for quality customer service, working here (as the case with many jobs) you will likely be thrown into multiple differing lines of business with barely any training and expected to look up on a knowledge base system that is very convoluted and not intuitive to find certain processes that the floor support and management will berate you as a new hire for not utilizing it enough and not actually training or taking the time to help employees learn the knowledge base system just saying "it's on the knowledge base" "look up the process on knowledge base, it's there, all the processes and knowledge you need is on there", and the team I was a part of utilized the "flog them until moral increases" tactic which of course did NOT help or work where their sweet sounding words in training did not continue when the whole team's numbers dropped being thrown a curve ball with being sent to work remotely due to COVID thus illuminating the true character of the team's leadership that consequently trickles down from senior management"

ECS people are promoted to newly created and other positions that are not posted, like Customer Experience Product Specialist, Indirect Sales Manager and Strategic Account Manager. These positions were never posted. No new sales for the 600 mW needed but ECS people continue to get promoted."

"When certain management left late last year, it went downhill and fast. The enforcement was no longer there and the 'secondary' management is a joke. If everyone was responsible from the beginning to the end in supply and demand response, they wouldn't feel the need to fire their best people. Not sure how they're still running. Demand Response group is the only department that runs right"

"We had unprofessional people working over us. You could tell they knew nothing about management they abuse their power as being managers. We’re jealous of some employees and took advantage of them. If we did work it was for an hour and then we would go on break and not go back to work due to the boss not coming to get us. We were supposed to be paid for training and never were.
