Murphy USA Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Murphy USA is an American corporation operating a chain of retail gas stations that are primarily located in proximity to Walmart stores. It was founded as a spin-off of Murphy Oil in 2013. In 2018, it was ranked 279 on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by revenue. In the first quarter of 2016, Murphy USA announced a change in its relationship with Walmart, as they began opening their own in-house gas stations and convenience stores. It plans to increase its locations independently of Walmart sites. In 2016 Murphy USA announced that Core-Mark would be the sole distributor for their chain. It said, "...this partnership will allow Murphy to offer a larger selection of popular convenience store products."

An outraged employee shared this in a review "The manager at Murphy in Olive Branch is horrible. I worked there for 2 months and 6 people left within that timeframe all because of the manager! She is petty, she is so horrible! She’s unfair to her employees and don’t know how to talk to people. If she is unhappy with you she will pick on you until you quit! She runs employees off daily! She’s also on Crystal Meth! Customers from the town that knows her comes in and out the store and ask what it’s like working for a crackhead!"

Former Employee - Accountant says

"Calgary Finance department is managed in order to fill positions with people the managers know or previously worked with. Existing employees are suddenly shown the door when friends and family of management are looking for work. Additionally, I witnessed several management members actively take credit for work their employees did and, conversely, blame their employees when things went sideways. I would avoid the Calgary Finance group as if it had the plague."

Former Employee - Manager says

"Never enough hours to cover the store so you could actually be a manger"

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"everything about this company is a con"

Former Employee - Cashier says

"Constant schedule change, not enough pay for work expectation, management is horrible."

"Company continues to run obsolete technology that is held together with bandaids. The culture is soul destroying with leadership spending HUGE amounts of money to recruit subject matter experts in senior and exec roles - but then their recommendations and plans for improvements are ignored if they differ from the opinions of the legacy execs. (Who admit they aren’t experts in these areas). Cliques, malicious gossip, lack of engagement/comms across departments, fear, distrust, weird strategies, lack of focus on environmental safety, poor training and a lack of interest in and focus on employee enablement, growth and development. RAMPANT gender and race discrimination in the lower ranks."

Former Employee - Shift Lead says

"Poor management, employees doing drugs on the clock, poor customer service."

Former Employee - Store Manager says

"Everything Is con no time for family"

Current Employee - Cashier says

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"Management is horrible No chance for moving up CEO don’t care No accountable managers They outsource managers who can’t do the job & never learn the job"

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"Poor Management, Manager has favorite picks, so not everyone has to do daily chores and leave it for one person. Manager must be bipolar cuz one day she's nice and next minute hateful. And in training she get pissy if you ask a question like it's a burden on her."

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"Good place to work for a bit while you’re 18. But then after a few years, management gets bad, pay becomes too little, management is always looking for a reason to yell at you and tell you every single thing you did wrong. You’re constantly stressed at work because you’re trying to do everything so your manager isn’t mad at you, but it doesn’t work because they still end up yelling at you for the smallest thingsWork aloneHorrible hours, bad pay, terrible management"

Murphy USA Corp Office Maintenance Agent (Former Employee) says

"It pays well. However, the politics with this company is truly sad! Working there was a nightmare. I loved what I did work wise. I worked for the Corp office in El Dorado AR. It’s kinda sad that there are things happening that the CEO and many in higher positions can’t see. I did not feel HR cared to figure out the truth. I was bullied for an entire year but I lost my job!The job Paid ok.Every man for themselves"

Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"This was a PT job for me. I was guaranteed by the SM when I was hired that I would be making a specific amount per hour and have 25 hours per week. The first 3 months, the SM was transferred, and I was literally left with two other great employees to handle everything at the store. When the SM finally came around, I asked why my pay wasn't right, he responded with excuses, and he said "he would look into it" but never did. Fast forward to my last day (this morning), my pay was NEVER fixed even though I mentioned it to everyone of my higher ups! The current SM is nice however, she is allowing the new DM to dictate her every move with shady practices that will eventually get someone robbed, and possibly hurt. The corporate office would be wise to review the new DM, and company policies. I was left with no choice but to walk away this morning because my hours were cut again, I walked into attitude/complaining (like always), and the DM over the area forcing my SM is write me up over a mistake that the DM caused me to make. I didn't even get a chance to defend myself against the BS. People, this is literally the worst company you can work for in the industry. Have some respect for yourself and apply anywhere else...even fast food is a step up. Some might read this and think I'm bitter however, I'm not. I truly enjoyed chatting with the customers. I just feel this is opportunity for me to potentially save another person from the mistake I made when I accepted the job from this company. Incase someone from this company/corporate office reads this. Some of your SM's have a reallyThere's litterally nothing.Everything. Small checks, constant complaining, superiors who think you're a nothing, and treat you as such."

Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"Manager is a plain horrible manager. She does not know how to manage and no one is held responsible for anything. You will get blamed because you are new"

Cashier/Sales Associate (Former Employee) says

"A typical day was stressful, unorganized and lack of employees following the policy. The hardest part about the job was lazy co-workers not being help responsible for their action. The most enjoyable part was the regular customers on a day to day."

Cashier/Sales Associate (Former Employee) says

"In all honest, this was a horrible place to work. Most people never really did their job and would have others do it for them and I feel as though management didn’t care about their employees, their hard work or none of their request."

Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"Managers only care about themselves. You don't get paid enough for the job at all.. They train you one maybe 2 days then leave you in the store by yourself to get it together.. No team work from others."

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"I worked for this company as a cashier for 4 years. Then moved to a different location and quit after a couple months! I worked my butt off up there just to find out that my manager wrote me up 2 times for not doing my work in a couple day period. I just came back to work after having 2 days off to find out I have been wrote up about things he could have talk to me about but instead I never even knew I was doing wrong! It was stocking a cooler. I was missing a couple drinks I didnt know we had in the back room because you only get a few seconds if that in between customers to even look for drinksand instead of him telling me like hey you are missing these certain drinks let me show you were they are so you dont miss them again but instead wrote me up like I was a lazy worker when I most certainly am not I worked my butt off up there and did everything they demand you to do all by yourself while running a gas station alone. I would not recommend working for this company ever. I have worked 2 locations with unfair treatment from managers both locations had managers that treated you unfairly Unless you love working extremely hard by yourself running an entire tore alone while having to do everything in a certain amount of time while constantly having customers at your window then yes this is the perfect job. Sad thing is I was real good at it. Had my manager even tell me I was at my other location even beg me go to school and work less hours but then when I refused to for the very first time on a day I had off in months while going to school too, I was told"

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) says

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"They say they care about you as an employee, but then mistreat you. My boss's only cared about sales and their products. Then there was the favoritism. As every new employee I was bright eyed and ready to do my best for this company. I QUICKLY got burned out.. please don't waist your time with this place👎"

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"New store opened and the manager picked her favorite. They never do work and are rude to customers. Higher up guy doesn’t do anything to them. Most of the employees have quit because of these women. I hope the store closes. The assistant manger is sweet and is the overnight guy."

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"I would never recommend working here lol the whole company is a fu**ing joke over work you VERY lil pay they give you the run around about a pay increase doesn’t care about your hard work"

Cashier/Sales Associate (Former Employee) says

"The job is incredibly boring. It isn't flexible, people are always asking for shifts covered but never cover your shifts in return. The pay is absolutely not worth the job."

Store Manager (Former Employee) says

"Terrible human resources they will lie to you and deceive you to their interests, no work home life balance, long hours no help. Would not recommend unless you have no life."

Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"Horrible management experience. Doesn’t give as many hours as they promise. Doesn’t give any raises. The communication within every employee is horrible."

Cashier, Shift lead, Ast manager (Former Employee) says

"Manager was a wreck she never should have advanced always slacking off while i covered her higher up people wouldnt listen i dont recommened unless you wont the job to run your life"

Sales Shift Lead (Current Employee) says

"Save yourself the time and energy of even applying here. Pay is horrible, hours are not anywhere near fair. If you have anything of a life outside of work go ahead and say goodbye to it as soon as you accept a position here. Stay Away."

Store lead shift supervisor (Current Employee) says

"Murphy USA has no respect for humanity sick and tired of being mistreated that's why I'm looking for a better opportunity. They don't know how to run a business."

Cashier and Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"While I was with the company for almost a year was put up for promotion and was told I was not promoteable even with it being wanted by the store GM and district manager. Also only got a quarter raise only to see my hours keep getting cut. So found a better job and moved on."

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says

"Worked there for 7 almost 8 months as Assistant Manager and it started off good but slowly ended up with me working every weekend and putting in more tasks than I was getting paid for. There was a lot of call ins and if you were already working and had a call in you might as well be prepared to stay. No breaks or lunches!"

Assistant Manager says

"I started with Murphy’s years ago with a great store manager and enjoyed my job. She was honestly the best boss I ever worked for. I had to transfer twice since then to two stores because I moved twice. This job isn’t bad at all if your store manager actually cares about you and their job, although compensation is awful. Murphy’s gives their store managers way too much power. The manager I am under now is never at the store. They are required to work 50 hours, since they are paid salary, but she edits her punch ins and outs. I was promoted to an assistant manager about a year ago, and I essentially run the store for her. I am by myself 24/7 in an excruciatingly busy store. Store managers make the schedules to fit the schedule they want to work AKA you will be working every weekend. And if you are an assistant like me you will be opening every day so they don’t have to get up early and open the store. Store managers always schedule another person to work with them so they never work alone. Beware of being a shift lead or an assistant in a busy store. You will be expected to order trucks, put them up, and do store audits all while helping thousands of customers by yourself. If you don’t complete one of these tasks while the store managers are off living their lives, prepare for them to become irate with you when they actually do show back up to work. My manager leaves with her husband to go eat lunch or breakfast for hours at a time, while still being on the clock. Even stealing time, she still has to edit it since she is really only clocked in about 20 hours a week. If you are an assistant you will most likely never be approved for any substantial time off, because that would require the store manager to actually have to work. District managers do nothing to help you either. I informed my district manager about it and she said “I am aware she is stealing time. And that will be handled, I just don’t want to step on her toes.” Almost half a year later, here we are. We also can not keep any good workers. The ones we do have communicate with me if anything comes up with them regarding work, because when they tell her the response is always “Sorry, I am out of town.” Our turnover rate is high because if she has an issue with any of the cashiers she will write extremely disrespectful notes and post them publicly for the whole store to see. She will never talk to you about it to your face. She also listens to video to hear if any of us talk bad about her amongst each other. Absolutely insane. My recommendation is just don’t work for Murphy’s. Because if you do, you could potentially work for a great boss, or more likely, a boss from heck. It makes no difference to the company. "This station sold me bad gas! They would not stand behind the error. Took the vehicle to a Ford Dealership and they confirmed high ethanol content. $650 later the car still has a check engine light from the damage. MURPHY denied the claim because no one else filed a claim. Pure bull crap for this company not to stand behind their product. Never buy gas from a Murphy station!"
