Marathon Oil Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Marathon Oil Corporation, usually simply referred to as Marathon Oil, is an American petroleum and natural gas exploration and production company headquartered in the Marathon Oil Tower in Houston, Texas. Marathon Oil is incorporated in Ohio.

An employee in a shared this on facebook, "Over time Marathon devolved from a little Independent that could to a company that valued the dream over the execution. Continual restructuring of teams, inexperience of middle management, and focus on 100% alignment from staff created an environment that was easy to blur the lines of excellence and achievements. Limited advancement opportunities, limited technical positions, competitive environment, friendly coworkers, "force" ranking system, good flex options, some unexperienced management."

"Job security is non-existent. Experienced professionals are leaving in waves while HR is quietly laying off a dozen or more employees a month to make room to fit the remaining few into the new building by 2021 which will reportedly be a cube farm reminiscent of a call center. Employees with 20 or more years of experience have a target on their backs, I have never seen or heard of this amount of turnover ever, regardless of the industry. For Marathon Oil to utter innovation in any context is laughable, any system, technology, procedure, etc. is grossly outdated and lagging way behind peers. The HR personnel are vastly incompetent. Ask three different representatives the same question and get three different answers. Never call on the phone with questions; send an e-mail so you have the response in writing for future reference. I would not wish Marathon Oil employment on my worst enemy. The HES record is deplorable, I still can’t figure out why they would have a dashboard that highlights their terrible record. If five days pass without an environmental recordable they pat themselves on the back like it’s an accomplishment. Once the EG assets are gone the TRIR will really take a dive and shine a light on the subpar safety record."

"Incredibly incompetent management; egos galore; insane HR department; unethical management behaviors; I could go on... Truly one of the worst situations I have ever seen."

Current Employee - Drilling Engineer says

"Have decided to go all in on unconventionals. Stock price shows people don't have confidence in the companies direction. Lot of hand waving and distraction from executives on how the company is performing when it really isn't."

Current Employee - Land Professional says

"The land department has become completely dysfunctional due to leadership changes in 2018/2019. No one should accept a job in MRO land without looking at the land threads on The Lay-off."

"Let’s lay-off the good people and keep the ones that get DUI’s and Get turn in for Sexually Harassment"

Former Employee - N/A says

"Backstabbing, favoritism, competition rather than collaboration, disregard for safety and compliance with regulations that management decides are not worth following. In my new job, I do not miss the toxic environment, and I do not worry about the things I am expected to do. I learned a lot and owe a lot to Marathon but am fortunate to have moved on now that the industry is picking up again."

Former Employee - Administrative Assistant says

"Does not honor or follow its "values" Forces competition with peers in order to keep job, therefore ruining "collaboration" effort Performance ratings based on competition among others with similar job titles, often times across multiple departments Representing managers of your review are done by managers who don't know what you do or who you are Multiple layoffs combined with peer competition created fear of job loss Layoffs left remaining employees doing work of multiple employees with no extra pay or bonus Merits based on favoritism not performance"

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"If you do a great job but you don't talk a bunch of bs then you're a goner, sorry. If management doesn't know who you are because you're too busy doing your job, you're gone. If you are not a socialite but you love doing your job and work hard at it, you're fired."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"The culture of "yes" men! It is all about appearances and not doing the right thing. Managers always say the right thing, in reality people take shortcuts. The upper management has not strategy and does not take time to learn about real issues, so does not know how to fix fundamental business problems."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"There is no work\life strategy and is controlled via the good ol boy network"

Operator (Former Employee) says

"They did not care about safety they were a get the job done company !!! They had no appreciation for any job completed you was just a number, they expect to be first and put your family last"

Accounts Payable (Current Employee) says

"Accounts Payable Manager/ Supervisor was horrible need more training on how to treat & communicate they had no boundaries hostile environment nobody got along worst group of people I ever worked with stay far away from Marathon it’s not a good company."

Driver (Current Employee) says

"Continually judged, pressured & punished by inexperienced management, putting public and employees at risk of physical harm IMO. Stressed drivers should not be behind the wheel of a loaded tanker hauling fuel.In my opinion, invasion of privacy takes priority over leadership and development of non-stressed focused drivers, micromanaged and continual decrease in time allowances for loading and unloading, not honoring delivering what you are promised, no teamwork, created animosity by management between drivers and continual threats of being sent home without pay if you experience any difficulties rather than assist addressing problems and issues."

Instrument tech (Former Employee) says

"Good pay that’s it can’t trust supervision they look down on you and they are unqualified liars that don’t know what they are doing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Operations Technician (Former Employee) says

"just an okay place to work at, management was awful, people I woked with were great. they need to focus on listening to their employees more. ping pong tables were great"

HES Safety Advisor (Former Employee) says

"Marathon oil in south texas is not a safe place to work. They have to many non qualified employees working for them that have zero safety experiences. If marathon oil would do random drug testing they would lose over 75% of their workforce."

Custom Protection Officer (Former Employee) says

"I worked for a contract company not Marathon. It was G4S Marathon was great to the contra company and their employees.the company I wanted to work for was marathonMarathon the company itself was greatThey needed to get rid of G4S"

Petroleum Technician Marathon Corp (Former Employee) says

"Don’t waste your time here. They put you thru rigorous training only to throw you into a fire. Complete mess of store managers to deal with. On call all the time. No training.NoneNone"

Sales Associate (Former Employee) says

"This was a very unprofessional and the most unpleasant job ever! The manger didn’t know what he was doing. They took $50 out my check and didn’t tell me until I said something. The claimed it was for 2 shirts that I haven’t even received. Very unprofessional!NoneEverything"

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"Not one best places i have worked for. Boss really was hsrd to work for. This business prepares food which je lets it set out all day. Needed to be thrown out after 4 hrs.not very clean in the area prepared thr fpod. Nor back in sinl. Just not really professiomal at all. Dont roatate food when comes in or dated.seen no ome wash hands just put gloves on. I washed my hand everytime and wore gloves. Not fair to employees.Got no lunch breaks"

IT Project Manager (Former Employee) says

"My personal experience it was a lousy environment for contractors. The last direct manager I worked with at the company was unprofessional and temperamental."

Operations (Former Employee) says

"This has been the worst place I have ever worked. The job is so cut throat the only thing it’s takes is a hurt feelings compliant to get some one fired. If you go to work here you may want to wear a steel lined jacket because it’s onky a matter of time before you get stabbed in the back. You’ve got the topical mix of lazier then normal employees. The only problem with that is management falls right in with that. There’s a select handful of hard working employees while everyone else and the supervisors sit around and play games all day on there phones and rarely leave the office. I’d any complaints are made or questions asked you should probably look for another job. The Hr department is the most comical thing that I have ever seen here. You could literally get told on for someone else cussing you at work and they try and fire the innocent person. I’ve seen a lead safety man get fired nearly for doing his job. Most of the full time employees are so lazy they had to hire temporary contractors to do the job and then put them in a lead role while the lazy employees cry and wine about someone telling them to do something. If you are looking for career advancement and looking to move up in this company then all you have to do if friend your boss on PUBG and be as lazy as possible and it’s almost guaranteed that buoy will be a lead within a month. This place is very toxic please do your self a favor and keep looking unless you are a gladiator and you enjoy a fight. It strengthens your mental fortitude dealing with all the sh**It will mentally break your spirtit"

Cashier (Current Employee) says

"Regular job nothing special close to race track so you receive those customers - not the best conditions to prosper on the job - very mundane - an entry level position nothing more"

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"Marathon Oil was a good job it's fast paced but you get to know your customers. I ran cash register restocked the sodas and learned the lottery machines and Gas pumps. The pay is good but they make you work a lot of hours. You can work 40 plus hours a week and some days no days off.The CustomersWay to many hours if you have a small kid"

Cashier (Former Employee) says

"poor managment, poor team skills, not good work area, store had lots of mold growing, to much favoritism, lazy workers, nobody work here, workers rude to customers."

CASHIER (Current Employee) says

"boss/owner constantly making inappropriate comments. manager is bosses daughter, accountant is bosses wife. basically you get to watch them rob themselves and blame their cashiers, constantly causing conflict, firing/hiring family members over and over. there is no accountability when it comes to the family.noneall of it"

Cashier (Current Employee) says

"Marathon is a horrible company to work for, they have their favorites there and they cater to them 100% where the other people who work there are treated badly. A typical day at work is mainly me doing all the work while the other person gets special treatment. I learned that Marathon has their fav's that they treat great. The one manager is not a very good one. Workplace culture is very horrible. The hardest part of the job is getting help when needed. There is no enjoyable part of the job.nonethe worst place I worked for."
