In 2008, Bass successfully predicted and effectively bet against the U.S. subprime mortgage crisis by purchasing credit default swaps on subprime securities which, in turn, increased in value when the real estate bubble burst.
Kyle Bass was recently involved in a social media scandal as reported on kxan36news.com, "Founder and managing Fund Hayman Capital Management Kyle bass was at the center of a scandal after his statements in social networks. According to the editor of the Chinese edition, “assistance from the U.S. government, though belated, is still welcome, and we appreciate it.” He also added that “the Chinese still more was heard about the help from the leaders of the United States than it was getting in Wuhan”. The Head of Hayman Capital Management commented on the allegations, calling the editor-in-chief Global Times “ungrateful bastard.” According to Kyle Bass, “we would have to pick up our supplies and go home”. To top off his angry tirade, the head of the U.S. hedge Fund wished to “Chinese virus swept through the ranks of the Global Times and the rest of the Communist party.” Bass very quickly deleted the message, but its contents survived in social networks. The American media, including Bloomberg, MarketWatch, and several other agencies and news portals, has also drawn attention to this scandal."
