Kerr Drug was an American chain of 76 drug stores throughout North Carolina. Its headquarters were located in Raleigh, North Carolina. On September 10, 2013, Walgreens announced its purchase of Kerr. The company was founded in Raleigh by Banks Kerr in 1951. The chain was operating 97 stores when it was acquired in 1995 by JCPenney. In 1996, when JCPenney attempted to purchase Eckerd Drug, the FTC forced JCPenney to divest itself of 34 former Kerr Drug stores and 130 Rite Aid stores. These stores were ultimately purchased by a group led by former Thrift Drug executives led by Anthony Civello who became Kerr Drug's President & CEO who left the JC Penney organization following the Eckerd acquisition.

"are no longer in existence as a retail pharmacy. They still service nursing homes and assisted living facilities only. The company was sold to Rite-Aid, I believe, in 2010."

"Always trying to compete with the larger chains with much more money. Not a stable company at all. Management is all about helping family members/friends. I don't think Kerr Drug will be in business much longer.low salary, long work hours, double standards"

"Kerr Drug freezes pay increases for years at a time.The chain offers minimum wages and no incentives, but expects way more one hundred percent work ethic.Potential once a year pay increases of no more than 2%, equate to pennies for employees.Advancement is nearly impossible to attain for those who have been with the company less than two years, especially for those who work outside of the pharmacy.Often making little practical sense, certain company policies are absurd. However, customers are excused from those same practices. (Ex: Employee fired for drinking beverage while waiting in queue to pay for beverage)Kerr Drug allows customers to thoroughly abuse the "Customer is always right" principle, even when a customer is blatantly taking advantage of a situation or even an employee.New Ideas do not circulate or escalate internally. They are simply disregarded, unless the employee is willing to use one's personal time and resources. Most often ignored are simple fixes to everyday issues that benefit both consumers and employees.The ability to learn about new and upcoming products is essential in any retail setting. "I worked as a part-time key holder. My duties were to act as management in the absence of the manager and the assistant manager. I ran a cash register, balanced cash drawers, did nightly reports, closed the store, work in pharmacy as technician and/or cashier when they were short handed.
