Giganews Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Giganews, Inc is a Usenet/newsgroup service provider. Founded in 1994, Giganews service is available to individual users through a subscription model and as an outsourced service to internet service providers. Well-known ISPs that have outsourced Usenet access to Giganews include RCN Corporation, BT, WOW! (Wide Open West), and Kingston Communications.

You can get the same service paying less money as stated on, "Giganews has always been pricier than other USENET providers tend to be. Their service is very good but, for our money, you can get just as good USENET service from a provider like Newshosting that charges far less than Giganews for any of their plans."

Tell the world why Giganews sucks!

"I worked at Golden Frog full-time for more than a year Cons: The TL/DR version is that you should not work here. Ever. This is a toxic work environment and is by far the worst company that I've ever worked for, and here's why: Nepotism: This is a privately owned company. The couple that owns it has most of their children working there. They are untouchable and can't be held accountable, even by HR, even when their behavior is terrible and would be unacceptable anywhere else. Terrible Management: A few key members of the leadership team have never worked anywhere else, and it shows. They have no idea what industry norms are and they act like children, throwing temper tantrums and at times openly yelling at people in meetings when anyone says anything in opposition to their ideas. Micromanagement is a way of life here, in the extreme. If you want your boss to treat you like you've never worked anywhere else and your opinion doesn't count and to just shut up and follow his/her exact instructions, then look no further. This is your place. Want your boss to tell you one thing, then you do it and it doesn't work out, and he blames you for making that decision? They got that here in spades. Inappropriate Behavior: There is rampant good ol' boy network behavior here. Racism? Check! Sexism? Check! Unprofessional behavior in meetings? Absolutely! Wildly inappropriate/vulgar jokes about people who work here? Yep, everyday. Oh, and most of that is from management. Also, if you are left-leaning in your politics, or just don't want to talk about politics at work, forget it. This is like a Fox News cheerleader squad and they have no problem spewing out their beliefs to you and attacking any ideas that are different. Final thoughts... Most of the SUPER positive reviews on here are from management which is trying to raise their terrible Glass Door rating. They are not reviews from people telling the truth. I know, I was one of the people encouraged by them to write good reviews while I was there because no one wants to work for a company that has 2 out of 5 stars or less and they were having a hard time filling their positions. This company is the same as Giganews, Powerhouse Management, and Data Foundry, though DF is mostly operated independently. They are all just separate legal entities but share most of the staff. Run away. Seriously. Run away or you will regret it. Don't believe me? Well, go ahead and take the job, but when you hate it, just remember that someone who went through the purgatory that is that company tried to warn you and you chose not to listen."

"I worked at Golden Frog full-time for more than a year Cons: This is a very tough working environment. Golden Frog is part of a portfolio of companies that includes Data Foundry and Giganews. It's a family business with the co-founders and many of their sons running the business. The family and a few of their long time cohorts create a class system. Unless you are in this "inner circle" your opinion doesn't matter very much. In fact, the management team tries to rule by intimidation and isn't very tactful about motivating employees and working through issues. The co-founder likes to stand up and company meetings and say his favorite part about the United States is he can fire people as he sees fit. The others in the management team take their cue from him. The organization has a very high level of turnover and it is very common for people to leave after just a couple months. Because of this, many departments are overburdened and focus and strategic direction often change. Also, the management team is very vindictive when people leave, often trying to block their movement to other companies. The corporate culture and benefits are way behind the times. PTO and healthcare offerings lag far behind other Austin tech companies."

"I worked at Golden Frog full-time Cons: Minimalistic pay Poor communication Out dated equipment misleading employer name and classification (work in a Data Foundry facility and also for GigaNews) Isolation in data center positons expect to work on easily automated tasks without automation"

Søren Hansen says

"Retention time has grown worse and worse over time. Charging me USD 29.99 for ages (Diamond), and I've just recently found out they charge 21.99 for new customers. I'm out - and changing to Newsdemon . Far better retention - and at full throttle on my gigabit connection. Oh, and at USD 6.00 per month ..."

Jack Harper says

"I've been using Giganews for years, it worked fine until a few months. Giganews has become very unreliable, most of the posts are incomplete or missing, I am going to close my Diamond account because of that. A big waste of time and money."

Ray Stlin says

"Retention has been dropping for quite some time. They continue to charge 3X the prices you can get at much better providers."
