Discovery, Inc. (formerly Discovery Communications) is an American multinational mass media company based in New York City. Established in 1985, the company primarily operates a group of factual and lifestyle television brands, such as the namesake Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Science Channel, and TLC. In 2018, the company acquired Scripps Networks Interactive, adding networks such as Food Network, HGTV, and Travel Channel to its portfolio. Since the purchase, Discovery has described itself as serving members of "passionate" audiences.

An Anonymous freelancer in Los Angeles, CA listed some of the CONS about working for Discovery, Inc. in a review she wrote for GLASSDOOR US: -the pay isn't great and there is limited ability for promotion

-the office environment isn't conducive for getting work done

She recommended to the Management: More loyalty to those who want to grow their career within the company. As of now, the culture is too political and places no emphasis on career development.

The current office situation is less than ideal and should be adjusted. Workspaces are organized by job title, rather than by team, making it very difficult to collaborate on projects.

"Corporate connection to Discovery parent co. & its deep pockets creates a massive amount of additional work over comparable productions for independent prodcos. Everything must be vetted from perspective that you could theoretically be providing the defense of the parent company from a lawsuit. For example, a shoot involving an adult mowing the lawn would require a few lines of explanation regarding shoot safety on a normal production, and maybe a double check of the liability clause in the release of the on-camera participant mowing the lawn. At Studios, the mower could result in a separate production meeting, paying a safety tech to be on site for the mowing, a five page safety plan, and a 3-4 page indemnification statement from both property owner and participant running mower. The situation is mostly understood by all at Discovery Studios to be incredibly inefficient, but its baked into the reality of being directly owned by a 35billion dollar corporation, rather than an independently owned production company."
