Discover Financial Services is an American financial services company that owns and operates Discover Bank, which offers checking and savings accounts, personal loans, home equity loans, student loans and credit cards. It also owns and operates the Discover and Pulse networks, and owns Diners Club International. Discover Card is the third-largest credit card brand in the United States.

One of its ex-employee commented, "Workplace culture was described on day 1 as passive-aggressive. No issues until there is one and they are all over you like flies. Lacks diversity tech and finance run by 35-50-year-old white males who are all closed to new ideas or adding diversity b/c why would they want to upset the status quo if they own it. There are many employees that were interns that have never worked anywhere else since they were 19. Myopic and not open to change."

"Discover uses their employees. They don’t care about them at all. I was forced back from a mental health leave forced to work or they would fire me. That’s not how you treat someone who works hard for you for two years. No matter how hard you work they want more more more from you. I even tried to say out of work unpaid for a little before returning due to a family emergency and they would not work with me at all. I would get that if Discover didn’t have thousands and thousands of employees."

"Discover company tells you you will not work most holidays and also that you will get weekends off but with my experience I worked every holiday that came up and I also worked every weekend. They also tell you that they are flexible hours but you did not get a set schedule you can't request time off. And some of the managers that are supposed to be helping you give you an attitude."

"Thay seem like a great company at first but then you get in and management doesn't care about the well being of the employees. I felt mocked by my supervisors often. I worked there for 2 years and had 4 different direct managers and out of them one didn't follow up on anything. Two of them treated me like a toilet on and the last one did not care about his team at all gestarted on the district"

"The hardest part of the job is the lack of support. They like to portray training, advancement,etc but the reality is its all politics. You will not advance unless you are a "teachers pet" With New Dept Manager for CSE the job culture has dropped. Its all about numbers & you have earn things i.e. BBQ. (yes we received a email stating) No flexibility with work schedule. Oh if your sick don't bother about getting a doctors note they don't care, you will receive occurrence and receive a write up. If your score a "needs" or "low" within 3 months you will be written up. Same goes for customer surveys,adherence,etc. You are working under a microscope so , you will be question overtime you log off the phone. Even when you need to go to the bathroom. Discover is customer driven and does care a great deal about their customers but drop the ball/and does not care about employees. There are some coaches and team leaders that do care but no one likes to speak. Afraid of losing their small position.Co-Workers & Coaches Are amazingPoor New Dept Manager for Customer Service, no advancement unless you know or are really close to a team leader or dept manager its all politics, Team leaders with poor leadership"

"i don’t recommend discover financial services one as i did temp services their over ten years ago and can’t be rehired and did nothing wrong i worked above and beyond for them. however someone i know has been with this company for over 20 years and many people worked with them same scenario once you hit over a certain amount of longevity with the company they find anything and everything they can go railroad you out of the company. they throw so much down your throat to say to customers that it is too much for an employee to do to a customer on the phone. i don’t find that to be customer service when you hound them to try new things or offer new things. when a customer says no means no don’t force it. i have learned discover doesn’t value their employees at all that each employee is just a number could careless who walks in those doors. i have seen some people with all different kinds of hair color, hooker dressed, just all out unprofessional and those that do take their job serious get hurt the hardest. i will continue to defend the right by the person they are hurting and let everyone know about discover value for their employees.nothingeverything"

"Discover is not a good place to work at if you are looking for a career. Management has no clue what they are doing or what direction to take. The company cares about the customer more than you, everything is biased and based on the customers perspective. The growth opportunities are not present at all like they claim. Being on the phone all day with no chance to even get up at the desk without being yelled at. The stats are all graded based on someone else so it’s their perception. How the calls are graded is super picky, the meetings are the same over and over again nothing new. The reason this company shouldn’t be on your mind for a career is because you should strive for something better and where your voice will be heard. A company that respects your opinion and ideas, this company does not do that at allParkingEverything else"

"I had a fraudulent charge on my account and have been disputing it for 5 months. People at Discover Card are a bunch on rude and nasty people. Now I am responsible for $4,000. in fraudulent charge. Starting a law suit against them, This is after twenty years of relationship. Do yourself a favor and use Amex, you get the best service out there. Hands Down."

"9 year customer closed my account without notice heavily affecting my credit score. Made no attempt to save a customer. Will never use Discover again. Horrible customer service. "

"I give Discover one star for lending me money to participate in a year studying abroad in Brazil while I was a junior undergrad in 2011. It was the time of my life and I have no regrets and Discover funded the supplemental $19k I needed to go. In hindsight and if anyone out there is in my position, please apply for the Boren scholarship for studying abroad instead! I took 4 stars off because since I’ve graduated, I have paid $16k towards my $19k student loan with Discover and I still owe... wait for it.... $23k! Now I am not sure in what world that is not criminal, corrupt, and a prime example of predatory lending. I have recently applied to refinance my loans to get out of the ridiculous 9% interest rates Discover was happy to charge me, which amounted to about $10 a day, just to have the hell of loaning with them. Earnest offered me 4.92% to refinance, SoFi offered me 5.2%, and Discover offered me... wait for it again... 7.49% to refinance my student loan with them. That is in the summer of 2020 during the COVID crisis, you know, when interest rates are at an all time low across all lenders! Discover still seeks to screw its customers out of thousands of dollars with sky high rates. They don’t even have a mobile app for their student loan servicing in 2020! Please research, research, and shop around when looking for a loan provider. There are so many more companies that are beyond more ethical and offer better services and rates than Discover. Stay far far away from this greedy company."

"I just got off the phone with Loren who is a supervisor with Discover in Phoenix. I was questioning my charges. According to her the interest charges of around $100 can go away if I pay the daily balance of around $5000. I am also paying around $100 in minimum balance. If i could pay off 5000 why would I even need your service in the first place ? So they just add up the interest charges and just tell to pay off when we are here trying to reduce the payment. I wasnt even aware of the interest charges being added up and ever increasing because of their ridiculously high apr. I just want to pay off the balance and close this card entirely and take my business elsewhere such as costco citi card or cards which has lower apr. I will never use their card again or do business with discover."

"If your credit won't be there for you when you need it most, then what is the point in having it; credit from Discover won't be there when you need it. I have a discover card, it has a fairly high credit limit, and I have never paid late. When COVID-19 hit, I didn't ask Discover for any assistance. Instead, I made a large payment to reduce my balance and give my credit score a boost. Discover immediately (same day) responded by lowering my credit limit by the amount of my payment, causing my credit score to drop. When most credit cards are assisting customers during the pandemic, Discover is harming theirs. In reading reviews here, I see they've done the same thing to many of their customers. I have a long financial future ahead of me and I'll remember how great banks like BofA, Wells Fargo, and Amex have been during the pandemic, and I'll remember how awful Discover was. DON'T make a large payment on your card during the pandemic, or Discover will lower your credit limit accordingly."

"Great credit, never late on a payment, always pay above minimum but haven’t been carrying a balance due to uncertain times and they closed my account without any notice at all. I will NEVER give this company my business in the future. I hope our government doesn’t bail this company out when this mess is over."
