Dansko is a comfort footwear company based in West Grove, Pennsylvania. Dansko was founded in 1990 by husband and wife team, Peter Kjellerup and Mandy Cabot. Most well known for its clogs, Dansko also makes dress and casual shoes, sandals, and boots. The company is 100% employee owned.

A customer called Gail talks about the terrible quality of a pair of clogs he got at Dansko in a review for ZAPPOS: "I purchased two pairs of Men's Sanita clogs a little more than six months ago. The black patent leather pair is falling apart! This after alternating between my Merrell winter boots, Frye cowboy boots, and Salomon running shoes from purchase until now. My point is I am no stranger to quality footwear. I have been wearing Dansko and Sanita for more than 30 years. These are the most crappy poorly Chinese manufactured shoes I have ever seen. The outer sole on the left foot and right foot is cracked from instep to out. Â Also on both left and right foot the treads at the ball position and the outer heel of the foot is separating from the shoe. I spent nearly $200.00 for these garbage products and want my money back for the Black patent leather ones! The brown ones are ONLY in good shape because I have other brown shoes and I HARDLY ever wear them. I am a lover of good comfortable shoes. I buy 5-6 fashion shoes yearly. I only buy work shoes as needed. I should not have to replace these so soon. The first pair of Danskos I purchased I owned for 7 years. The second pair 9 years Seeing as I do have to replace them I will not be purchasing any more from Dansko or Sanita. Instead, I'll have them custom made by Sven Clogs and get my money's worth. I will repost this problem everywhere I buy shoes where this brand is sold. In addition, all my friends, family, and co-workers who are nurses, social workers, therapists, aides, drivers, doctors, and officers who must wear good comfortable shoes will be informed of what a shoddy product these are. Money is too hard to earn to waste."

"Rampant favoritism by upper management. The rich keep getting richer while there are many folks who cant afford to pay their heating bills. Pay is not great. Upward mobility very limited except for the chosen few. The are "employee owned" but some employees are way more equal than others."

"Marketing is a disorganized, hectic, and sometimes toxic environment. Zero communication from management. Assignments are worded vaguely and without details, presumably to give creative freedom. However, if the final product doesn’t match what the manager had in mind, you will receive radio silence until the day it goes live and then they tell you to start over. If anything falls through the cracks, it falls on the employees at the bottom of the totem pole. Employees are blamed when their managers “didn’t see” urgent emails. Upper management is threatened by friendships formed between employees. During my year at the company I never saw management face any repercussions for their cliquey and bullying behavior. Concerns voiced to HR will be listened to and discussed, but that conversation dies in the HR office. Marketing is understaffed. Certain individuals are doing 3 jobs at once, without any promise of a significant raise. Overall art direction from management was fickle and sporadic. It was always implied that this was the employees’ fault. Employees are not only expected to read their boss’ mind, but to predict the trend of their thoughts in the future."

"-No work from home options, even if you live far away/on bad weather days -Very heavy politics internally -Bullying and aggression occurs from some middle management (and is excused because it's referred to as a management "style"). Turnover rate is high in this dept., so the "style" doesn't seem to be working. HR has unfortunately overlooked it multiple times. -No room for growth or mentorship -Departments work in silos and there is no process; would suggest project management overall and traffic managers -Even when salaried, you're made to clock in/out daily--not used as a time tracker to measure efficiency, comes off as very distrusting towards employees"

"No chance to grow or career opportunities. Often times a negative environment and upper management is blissfully unaware of how some departments are managed. Everyone has their own agenda and doesn't work as a team. Little to no organization or communication."

"Slow, they tell you 40 hrs a week but you end up working much more. Pay is extremely low for a warehouse, very disorganized,, they don't tell you till last minute that you have to stay and work late, they want you to work seven days a week with no day off"

"I will be honest here, working at Dansko was horrible. I worked in the marketing department and the managers and VP have no respect for anyone and play favorites. They disregard time and effort the creative team spend day in and day out. I am 10x happier now that I'm not there. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
