In 2016, Entrepreneur listed Carl's Jr. as #54 on their Top Franchise 500 list, which ranks the overall financial strength, stability, and growth rate for the top 500 franchisees in any field across the United States. As of March 2016, CKE (the parent company of Carl's Jr. and Hardee's) has a total of 3,664 franchised or company-operated restaurants in 44 states and 38 foreign countries and U.S. territories.

One angry customer of Carl's Jr. shared this in a review "i dont think that ive ever been anywhere so messy, overpriced, and overrated. the employees at Carl's Jr. were extremely disrespectful and in-expierienced and the manager didnt seem to mind that they all reeked of cigarattes. when i finally got my 9 doller "meal" i realized that they gave me the wrong burger and the few fries they had thrown into the bag were ice cold. i went back inside and asked for a manager, 5 minutes later, some 18 yr old asst.manager comes stumbling out of the back and accuses me of eating the missing fries, i ended up leaving the bag of food and calling thier corprate office.i will never be going back to this place and i suggest no one else does either."

"Working here at Carl's jr wasn't the best. No great benefits like pay raise or understanding of education. Management isn't the greatest due to the lack of understanding what is most important to the employees Cons: No healthcare, no hours, very little pay"

"The manager is terrible. The boss is terrible. The workplace is extremely stressful. You don't get free lunch. The only good thing is you get hired fast. Cons: No free lunches, no good pay, a lot of drama"

Cashier/Customer Service (Former Employee) says

"They do not appreciate the employees with good self work ethic. I would not suggest working or eating at Carl's Jr in Clear lake. They cheat on drive through timing with a small black reset button after each order rather than improving the actually service times. Work morale at this location is bad. It is dirty most times as well unless specific employees are working. They do not properly sanitize surfaces. Cons: Horrible work environment, shift leads yell at employees and customers, they make comments about not wanting to help the Spanish speaking customers, there are not trained properly to be training other employees on how to properly do most tasks, examples. ( Most employees do not know how to clean the soda spickets, or they just choose not to and there's no reprecussion, most employees charge for the wrong order or multiple orders, mischarging the customer, because they were not shown programming and a simple send to cashier button, most of the registers and card machines do not function properly"

"Just a job I went to 5 days a week. I hate this job I need to get something else. That’s about all I gotta say. If you can run from it Go to school college so u can have options love you trust. It was harder to do overtime weekends shift shift tomorrow morning and I can pick it tomorrow when you can."

"Do not work here. You will be treated like dirt and seen as numbers- management does not treat you like people with lives outside of work. They expect you to devote your time to this place and will work you past exhaustion for minimum wage. Even if you try your best it will never be good enough to satisfy management. Cons: Low wage, no work/life balance. Terrible hours."

"Whole store is trash wouldent recommend anyone to work there the employees are disrespectful nd the management is bad and schedules are always mixed and hours are horrible Cons: Short breaks shittty managment unset schdules ect ."

"The 8056 store for carls jr. has alot of problems, first its like a constant battle between morning crew and night crew, but since the manager only works in the morning he is always on the side of morning crew so its unfair all around, they like to cut checks and hours just because they gotten mad or upset with a worker. Amd the way they cook their beyond meat is absolutely wrong since they cook it on the same charboiler as the regular meat, cross contaminating every beyond meat their is."

"This is a given...but Employees are not appreciated! Managers don’t care about you no matter if you are one of the most hard working employees because to them you are replaceable and they don’t care about anybody but themselves. And to be promoted, it’s not worth it. The pay is low for the amount of stress and work you have to go through. Cons: Everything else"

"No training, no support from management. Managers working over 80hrs weekly with no HR support. Underpaid staff members so there is a high turnover. Lack of leadership. Cons: Worst managed franchise I’ve ever worked for."

"I hated working here. It was awful, and I hated every day that I worked there. We got very limited pay, and awful hours where they worked you to the bone."

"Alot of the staff members are rude and disrespectful the pay not even worth the amount of work you have to put in everyone brings their problems into work regardimg their personal life there are no secrets everyone is rude and mean the customers are nice but the staff say disrespectful words behind their backs i don't recommend anyone working here as it is cruel place to work with staff get angry if you say no to swapping a shift, staff becpme threatning and name calling if you enjoyed being a victim of bullying then feel free to join here im currently in therapy because of the staff at that work place Cons: Pay not worth the amount of work you put in"

"Checks were just $20 or last time it was $5 they say it’s based on performance but yet they don’t take the time to teach you One of the managers there is a racist she treated me differently because I was Mexican that’s how I felt and it caused me to feel like I was unwanted and worthless so I quit before I did something I would regret also mostly every shift they called me to take the day off Cons: Everything"

"In total I have worked for Carls Jr. for three years and it was a terrible experience through and through. The management is terrible, and you do not feel secure and safe at your job. You do not only receive constant disrespect from customers but consistently from staff and upper management as well. This compact constantly breaks policy and provides zero respect for staff. They allow employees to get away with blatant racism and zero effort, while others are expected to provide the impossible. -1000000/10, would not recommend and will never find myself employed by Carl's Jr. again. They allow upper management to hire siblings and instantly provide raises/promotions. MASSIVE HR VIOLATIONS Cons: Everything."

"its a place to get some work experience then get out. Not much potential here. It was ok while I was there but not something I'd do for long........."

"The interviews made it seems like an incredible, open minded, multicultural and multi age work place that accepted anyone and everyone. Older workers cost more and quickly the older workers numbers diminished and now it's almost entirely run by 16 year olds. They were incredibly disorganised with who knew what, expected you to know everything after your first shift and were visibly mad if you had to ask questions. Cons: Horrible workplace environment"

"90% of employees are actively using illicit drugs on the job and/ or drinking alcohol. Cons: Unsafe, unsanitary, unethical"

Crew Member (Casual) says

"Staff were constantly made to feel on the outside of the clique, those that didn't fit in were complained about to managers to the point managers believed the complaints without verifying their validity. The managers were always bickering and complaining to crew about each other and their pay. The standards of service also differed from manager to manager, and cleaning tasks were only done depending on how soon an audit or inspection was to take place. Customers are constantly complained about and mocked by all management and most crew. Routinely made to wait before clocking on and sent home early was very uncommon to work what was on the roster. Roster's were most of the time copy and pasted from week to week, if they had to be changed they were not published until saturday or sunday before the start of the next week, leading to managers complaining about staff being unreliable as they told them they were rostered shifts they could not work. Crew were treated as a burden by members of management. Some crew were given perks others were not, such as free food or soda so long as members of management didn't see it, others were told that it was theft and they would be given warnings if it was done again. There was very minimal training given, crew trained crew and were picked apart by managers who had no involvement in the training of crew. Cons: pretty much everything else."

"It's fast food, there's not much to expect. You get belittled by customers on a daily basis and management expect you to just adapt to it, like you're not a human being with any sort of self confidence. If you love being treated like trash, this is the job for you! Cons: Lol"

"I am so upset with this place, I order a burger with bacon. Due to surgery and not being able to go myself, my son went, and the bacon was ONLY about 25% cooked. Especially since I paid extra for the bacon to be added, I call to complain, and no answer. Call their corporate, and said they will send me some type of gift card or something I can use at a later date. NOTHING WAS ever sent"
