Bob's Discount Furniture is an American furniture store headquartered in Manchester, Connecticut. Bob's Discount Furniture was founded in 1991 with its first store in Newington, Connecticut, and is ranked 12th in sales among United States furniture stores according to Furniture Today's list of Top 100 Furniture Stores. As of February 2020, the company has 126 stores in 20 states, primarily in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and West Coast.

Melissa of Bayonne, NJ shared her experience with Bob's Discount Furniture on Consumer Affairs in September 2020:

"Our experience with BOB'S was absolutely terrible. We went to the union NJ store which was actually a pleasant experience, the problem started yesterday which is 3 weeks after our 2600.00 couch purchase. We are between 2 houses in 2 states and scheduled delivery for yesterday (9-8-2020) the truck pulls up and they unload an ottoman... Just an ottoman. I immediately call cs because where is the rest of it!!! Customer service (who is based in India and extremely hard to communicate with, to begin with) says they simply forgot to put it on the truck, they tell me it will be another 2 weeks before they can deliver to my house. I explain that we took off work and traveled to another state to get deliveries that day and that I would need to be compensated at least 15pct for this major inconvenience."

"Dear Office Associate, Be advised there is No advancement unless you want to sell. Even then, co- workers will steal your customers (your money) and constantly complain to management. Management is incompetent and will do their best to convince you its YOU. Low pay, leaving any reasonable compensation wrapped up in bonuses that you I'll never see, unless the management is feeling generous by way of food.Resume entry and beats boredom..NOTHING ELSE.Pay, management, co-workers, inconsistent hours, entitled arrogant customers. Take your pick."

Management spent too much time trying to hang out with everyone instead of trying to help you learn because they didnt know. "The day I quit they gave me a cake BUT told everyone I retired without any retiring benefits, and they with held my unused vacation days. They only care about the company business NOT the workers."

"Didn't really care for how management conduct's business. The people I worked with we're ok but when it came to management I felts though they had they favorites on who they let slide on not following the rules."

"Ask about scheduling during your interview and get it in writing. The handbook says they have a 30 hour full-time and part-time available. The fact is that their real policy is "no guaranteed scheduling" meaning you work when they tell you. You will have no work/life balance. If you have a disability forget it, they won't even give you two days off in a row. Every other furniture store in town is accommodating to schedules so skip Bob's.nice showroom, great training12.00 an hour draw -meaning if you don't sell enough you pay back"

"Ive been here 2 years No benefits no bonuses hardly any pay if you're a delivery driver you get paid thru 1099 it's so illegal what there doing to the delivery teams stay away report if possible"

The answer is it's fake as can be. "Sales are asked to ALWAYS involvle a Mgr w/every customer.However they are not always available and then you get questioned why there is no mgr involvement.The pay is a joke!The job is 100%commission,so if there are no customers you are basically just receiving a draw against your own potential future earnings.Paychecks look like $200-300 a week! They definitely will sell you on a dream job.They want you to work hard just to benefit manager Bonuses. Way too much favoritism!! It’s overall a disaster."

"Remember one thing , there based out of Connecticut . All the marching orders come from corporate. If they don’t like you your gone . Doesn’t matter if you where the best driver they ever had they will can you . You can earn a decent salary, but you will work your tail off for ever dime . Don’t waste your time . "What doesn’t make sense is if you don’t make your commission and they pay you your hourly they then take that money out of your next paycheck! I’ve never worked for a Co. that did this. It’s very hard to make any money. Worst job ever!! I work full time, sell tons of furniture and don’t even bring home $500 a week!"

"working at this job you make 15.00 an hour but if you don't have over 16,000 in furniture delivered in a week you owe bob back the 15.00 an hour so its like your not even making a set pay. The management plays favorites in that place and they are liars. They will make it seem like the job is wonderful and they really care about their people but its all for show. I bought furniture from them a week before I was terminated and the delivery crew looked like they just got released from prison. Managers were never available when needed or paged. They were too busy flirting with office staff and other sales associates or too busy sitting on their cell phones. Anytime anyone went to management if it wasn't worded the way management wanted they were terminated. They gave sales to other associates if they liked them more or if they were the high writers. This company has completely turned me away from ever wanting to do another sales job.Not muchAlotThank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Starting with the interview process and continuing all the way through onboarding with detailed pay information (including a pay plan that each associate must approve before being hired). We strive to make sure our pay plans are clear and well understood before anyone begins their job. Additionally, we give our sales associates appropriate time to train and ramp up to ensure success before being subject to commission pay guidelines. That said, we respect the fact that commission sales are not for everyone. Bob’s has an open door policy (including an anonymous hot line) that allows associates to voice concerns to anyone in Bob’s. Our zero retaliation standard is closely held and dealt with swiftly in the event an associate is treated differently because they brought a concern forward. "Bought new couches for in my living room. After one month and only about 5 uses of the recliner in the end of the couch it quit working in the upward position . I have been waiting for over 5 months to get someone Out to fix it . They keep telling me they are under staffed. That is not my problem. I even paid for the 5 year protection plan on it and I can’t even get them to fix it after one month of use. I will not be back ."

"Purchased 2 Couches and 2 Remote Control Reclining chairs a year and a half ago. With that, we also purchased a THREE YEAR protection plan. Well, a week ago, one of the removes simply got detached from its wire and had tiny wires exposed with one torn from the detachments. In an adult home (no kids), this should have NOT happened. Their partner company who handles the protection plan (Guardian Protection Products, Inc.) did not honor the broken remote. They claim we had to give a reason why it broke because they only handle accidental coverage. What? So If I said my leg got wrapped around the cord and it got pulled out, then they'd cover it? Are you F@#$@ kidding me? Even their form was so unprofessionally written with grammar mistakes, that we could easily see what a joke of an outfit this is. Please do yourself a favor, spend a bit more and stay away from this super low class, consumer unfriendly company. Check out the legitimate reviews, even facebook and see how many thousands of dissatisfied customers they've gained."

"Came in on tax free weekend and bought a reclining sectional and I was told that it would be in at the end September 2020 .Got email that my delivery was on 12th of september 2020 so I disposed of my other couches on delivery date they only brought chase section of recliner and told me the rest of recliner won't be available until November / December how ar 4 people suppose to sit on a chase if it is made for one person .now I have no furntiture in my house until minimum November will never buy anything from them again and be carefull when you go there they make promises that they can not keep"
