Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (AJG) is a US-based global insurance brokerage and risk management services firm headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago). The firm was established in 1927 and is one of the largest insurance brokers in the world.

The company dates back to 1927 when Arthur James Gallagher started a brokerage firm in Illinois. The end of World War II brought his three sons, John, James, and Robert, into the business. The company incorporated in 1950 when revenues were $175,000. In 1957, the firm won Beatrice Foods Company as a client.

An unhappy customer bemoaned on the challenges she faced while doing business with the company, she said " My policy auto renewed and the premium went up from £12 to £30 (weirdly more that 1/12th or even 1/11th of the annual premium). I opened and read the letter but as no proposed monthly amount or previous yearly amount was mentioned, I didn’t realise the premium had more than doubled. I finally spotted it and called to cancel and they want to charge me £70 just to leave. I’m still on the phone trying to sort this out but if you’re thinking of taking up insurance with this company, just don’t!"

"Took working there 7 yrs to work up 2 40,000. They don't value their employees or even consider there concerns. Doing the work of a claims adjuster, have a All Lines License in order 2 Adjust Claims. So that you are not paid comparison with the market the change ur title to Service Representative. Service Representatives don't need an all lines casualty adjusters license."

"Beware of Gallagher!! They failed to explain all of your duties and responsibilities during the interview. Little training, high expectations, and raises are few and far between. Negotiate a high salary walking in the door because they will work you to death!!! Adjusters work a minimum 50 hours a week to keep up. PROCESSES, PROCESSES, PROCESSES. Outdatsystems"

"There is 0 support for you. Very high turn over. Laying off people now. Mismanagement of money by GB, sued last year in class action by their own clients, Unethical company. account managers make promises to clients that that can’t possible be done."

"I worked here from November until last week. Awful. Onboarding was a disaster to say the least. They rushed me on the phones without having my out of state appointments with the insurance commissions of those states. I asked about this multiple times and then was removed from the phones after 2 months of taking calls and being told "We are taking care of it." Management is a joke to say the least and they only care about numbers.Base salary is OK.Everything you can imagine is terrible."

"Management is poor, with bottom line profit their only goal, despite pretending that staff is all important. Annual pay rises & bonuses cancelled regularly (other than for the Executive team), End of Year (Christmas) functions cancelled or spend reduced to almost nothing, staff let go without cause. The culture is so bad they cannot recruit staff fast enough, hence there are always loads of jobs advertised."

Poor management that only care about themselves and instead of helping the employees they just find ways to belittle everyone. They say they will pay commission and promise everything under the moon then they don't pay. I would not recommend anyone to work here.Hostile work environment"

"I resigned twice from this company due to its sweatshop atmosphere whether you’re at home or in the office. Everybody has to work almost 24 seven just to keep their job. Very heavy work load. The pay is good but over all when you consider the hours you put in it’s probably more like $.75 an hour. Most supervisors are nice and helpful but my last supervisor did not give you support or guidance leading with a bull whip! Wolvwwolves"

"Run don't walk. If you get an interview you may want to exit left. This company is beyond sub-par. It is a stressful environment with unrealistic expectations, this is an understatement. The management is inexperienced, inefficient, and uneducated, and therefore unhelpful to say the least and are unable to support their staff in times of need. Oh let's address the elephant in the room, the training, oh that's right there is none! Also, don't look for raises as they do not exist and bonuses are non existent as well. Not much incentive for keeping employees around, thus the high turnover and job burnout."

"The best insurance option is a $8k out of pocket and after that 80% is covered. No room for advancement and they let go of employees all the time for being 1-3 minutes late. The building has no parking and it is typically a 4-7 min walk from were you park to get to your desk. It is not a great working environment, you have the General Manager of the site who is very unapproachable and will give you a fake laugh and a fake smile and never look you in the Face.Vision and Dental Benefits and the normal HolidaysMedical Benefits, work life balance, advancement, mentoring and longevity."

"Orlando claims manager pretends to be nice and supportive but she is not. There is a horrible atmosphere in the office. Everyone overworked meeting corporate matrix instead of adjusting claims. Other Florida offices may be different (other than unrealistic daily corporate matrix). Most adjusters in the red daily regardless of file handling quality."

"I worked at Gallagher full-time for more than a year Cons: Poor internal infrastructure. Clients are treated poorly and the clients service team is trying to find ways to leave the company. Day in and Day out all you could hear internally at the organization is how much people hated working for the company. Recognition is ZERO. Support is ZERO. Management is truly terrible at what they do and do not belong in the positions of leadership. Best ADVICE is RUN do not work for this company as you can put your hear and sole into it and they will treat you like trash and then discard you like the trash they treat you. Company does not have any room for advancement AT ALL! dead end job. Also do not forget to to ask to see the benefits they offer and how much it will cost you. The raise you will get might seam good however you will be upside down once you realize it is the worst benefits package offered to a company. Your dog/cat or any pet you have can get better insurance."

I was verbally berated and spoken down to during my entire tenure at Gallagher. After showing initiative and drive to work hard I was rewarded with a completely unmanageable workload followed by awful treatment and backstabbing from coworkers and managers. Wildly inconsistent expectations and a terrible place to work, I would highly recommend looking elsewhere in the insurance industry, don’t trust these guys."

"I wish there was a no star option. Spent almost an hour providing our company details and policy requirements for Hannah Hughes not to bother responding. I have called everyday, several times a day for over a week , multiple emails and i've receive one response fro her to state that she will get back to me as soon as she's off the phone call she was on. That was yesterday. have called again today still no answer! Beyond terrible customer service. I'm taking my business elsewhere. How this company is still operating is beyond me."

"the London Ontario locations grinders tried to move me to a different provider with a 75% increase in premium during the covid pandemic. The provider I was with is still in business. i guess the agents commission wasn't to her affluent income range. I haven't been to Hawaii yet why would i want to send you there. SHAME on your company !"

"I've had photography insurance with them for nearly 3 years and they are terrible customer service. I had stuff every 3 months new equipment and each time it takes a couple of months of me chasing to have it on the insurance. they owned me a refund once and 4 months on I still havent got it! with chasing weekly. Do not go with these guys!!"
