Anthem is an online multiplayer action role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. The game was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 22, 2019.

Set on an unnamed planet, players assume the role of Freelancers, heroic adventurers who wear powerful exosuits to defend humanity from the threats beyond their cities' walls. The game's title refers to the Anthem of Creation, a powerful and mysterious force responsible for most of the extraordinary technology, phenomena, and threats in the world. In the main narrative, the player's Freelancer is tasked with stopping the villainous Monitor from seizing control of the Anthem.

Anthem received mixed reviews from critics, who criticized it for its grind, technical aspects, and story, contributing to an experience that felt repetitive and shallow, although its combat, flight controls, and visuals received some praise. Despite some positive sales achievements, the game failed to meet commercial expectations. BioWare announced in February 2020 that they will be reinventing the core gameplay of Anthem as part of a long-term plan.

A gamer explain the honest truth why Anthem is getting bad reviews on a website that hosts FAQs and walkthroughs for video games:

¨This game had a lot going against it the moment it was announced. Being associated with EA immediately raised some red flags (And rightfully so) plus Biowares last game also didn't do too well, reinforcing the need for Anthem to be nothing less than extraordinary.

On top of the negativity they were going in to, EA clearly pushed this out before it was ready. Because of this, reviewers played a buggy unoptimized version before the 22nd release date. Clearly there were issues Bioware was aware of which the day one patch fixed a lot of.

Picture being a reviewer who is on a time limit to get a looter shooter review out, so you have to force yourself through a buggy unoptimized mess to get to the end game only to find that the end game loot is bugged and doesn't even work properly.

On top of this, you aren't getting the quality of life changes until the official PlayStation 4 launch date, so you go through the main hub walking slow as molasses, there's no quick way to get around after missions, and the loading is outrageous. Tethering to other players in a mission sucks, and it feels like the game is fighting against you because even though you acknowledge that the actual game play is great, these issues start adding up to where it takes away from your enjoyment.

Mind you, this is only on the Xbox one and pc versions.

So clearly those small details added up to something that ruined what should have been a fun experience. Fast forward to the 22nd (21st I believe for PC and Xbox) and the day one patch comes out. Let's be honest. It didn't matter at that point if the quality of life changes improved the game for those reviewers, because they had already made it to the end game and the prior amount of time pushing to get there wasn't enjoyable and already destroyed any good will they could've gotten from it. Their experience was soured beyond repair.

This is why you have so many people scratching their heads at why this game is bombing. Because while the quality of life changes didn't change enough to make the game incredible, for someone playing Anthem with the changes in place from the start is going to have a much better overall experience, because the loading IS faster, they CAN run in the main hub, there AREN'T an abundance (if any) glitches and bugs, the tethering system IS more flexible, and the end game loot works properly.

I'd be pissed off too if I was playing the early version of this game, but to those of us with a PS4 who just started playing, it's harder to relate to why the scores are so low. Then again, it's also possible that the Ps4 version is just flat out better optimized.¨

"High stress job nonstop phone calls, management wants to complain and wrote you up for things that make zero sense. Forced rotating schedule every week, but old ladies that can barely do the job who worked there 17 years get whatever vacation and schedules they want."

"Sweat shop they make call centers seem like detention halls you are constantly monitored and are reviewed 3 times per week and they actually expect 98% perfection on calls even when they have mandatory OT for 3 months straight. They are always looking for ways to fire you and hopefully you can handle talking for 8 hrs straight they get every minute outside of breaks and lunch out of you Believe ME.. Calls are back to back not even a 10 second break and the Managers are unprofessional and desperate. Also training seems so nice because they are setting you up for a real torture ride you will have at least 4 people watching your every move and listening on calls constantly its crazy, take this position if you are really desperate like everyone else there at least in the Las Vegas location. And if you are offered a bonus Forget about it!! You will only see a bonus if you are as good as a Auto Attendant. Cons: Stressful"

"Anthem does not care about you as a person, at all. Management doesn't care either, they are just power hungry. Cush jobs, no one leaves from. They say you can advance in the company, but you never do. They post jobs for "internal" and its not truly internal. They already had someone in mind from who knows where and they are the ones that get hired. Its ironic working for a "prestigious" health insurance company how horrible our own health insurance coverage is."

"Don’t expect proper or adequate pay. They raised quality scoring and don’t offer a grace period for errors or new changes to procedures. They are slowly pushing tenured employees out and want people to get their pharmacy tech certification.. but they have yet to offer a pharmacy tech program that will work with your schedule. Everything is on your own time which reduces work/life balance. Management is lazy and undercut you when upper management (I.e., executives) are notified of issues at the site. The drawbacks outweigh the benefits. Anthem got a lot of work to do & the last thing they want to listen to their employees about the issues/toxicity low level supervisors and managers allow. Hence, why turnover is so high among the Texas, Missouri, Virginia and Ohio offices. Cons: See review"

"You better think again before applying to this company. When we got out of training after 3 weeks, the stuff we were trained on wasn't what we were talking calls on. We were getting claim calls, but all we knew how to do was look up basic benefits. We were told that claim information would "come naturally". Well its not coming naturally, I'm still confused as ever. The second part of training, called "OJT"(on the job training), we barely got to listen to any live calls. 5 days into OJT, it was a busy Monday, the call volume was very high, so what do they do? Yep, make all of us in OJT training get on the phones, no one to help us, nada. "Oh you can reach out to the help desk if you get stuck." They need to do something different with the training, people don't wanna be thrown under a bus and not know what to tell the customer, because we weren't trained correctly. If your a FAST learner, you may like it. But this job is not worth the stress! Cons: Micro Manage, training wasn't enough, managers always being replaced"

"Managers are hard to get hold of when you need help with issues with customers, but will contact you when you mess up. The pay is not worth the work. They want back to back calls with no time to wrap up or rest after a call. Horrble training, you train yourself when you get on the floor. The system the use is slow and always freezing or giving wrong information. HR is no help with anything. I had to get a lawyer for them to pay me the money they owed me for 2 years of overtime. Cons: Back to back calls, low pay, bad management"

"Anthem protects bad, narsacisstic managers that make working there horrible. Human resources says they are there to help but then does absolutely nothing when push comes to shove. They would not even speak with my manager after telling me " that is concerning, you're manager should not be doing that". They left it up to me after I made them aware of how uncomfortable I was with my manager. The work environment is extremely toxic in almost every department and it comes down to horrible management. I've seen a lot of good people leave because of this."

"Anthem has unreasonable production standards. You have to log every day all the time that you did not work which is very ridiculous. Managers get hired because they befriend themselves to upper management who favors their work buddies --not because they are well liked and respected and qualified. Constructive criticism is not practiced, you are sent a pick apart email from manager that is curt and rude. Does not support the betterment of team, but is more focused on berating staff who do not exceed production level. If you stop to speak to co-worker on way to bathroom, here will come the manager babysitter who asks if we have any questions and they told to get back to respective desks.....manager purposely tends to look for this to show everyone how she is boss which is very unnecessary & focus should be on more important matters so it seems this is done in a petty vein; when this is reported to upper management they look the other way because they are all friends. Cons: favoritism & unqualified mgr + unrealistic production goals"

"Anthem sucks! I called the nurse line today 11/13/2020 for a few reasons hoping that it will prevent me from having to go to the HOSPITAL. I had to call 3 times and between the agents and nurses, I think I wasted an hour getting verified and still never got helped. HOW IS THIS NURSELINE HELPFUL! I gave my information so many times I felt like cussing at all of them! The agent answers the call and transfers you to a nurse. The first agent heard me ask for a nurse and then she said, so you are looking for a nurse? I didn't say a word. Then she said one moment and after a few seconds, she asked if I was looking for a nurse. I SAID CAN YOU HEAR ME WELL AND SHE SAID, YES. I said so you heard me ask for a nurse right and she said yes! SO WHY IS MY TIME BEING WASTED??? I WAS FINALLY TRANSFERRED... Nurse answered and asked for my name DOB address, number, and where I was at the moment as if that is any of her business! If someone listens to the call, they will hear her stall to prevent from having to help me. I can't believe these people were so UNPROFESSIONAL! THEY DIDN'T NEED ANYTHING BUT MY ID CARD NUMBER, NAME, AND DOB...AS FOR MY ADDRESS, ASK IF ALL THE REST OF MY INFORMATION IS UP TO DATE, get the answer and MOVE ON... IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE FOR ME TO CALL 3 TIMES AND SPEAK TO 6 PEOPLE AND STILL NOT GET ANY ADVICE FROM A NURSE! I WANT MY COMPLAINTS AGAINST ALL 6 PEOPLE FILED AND I AM GOING TO MAKE SURE IT HAPPENS BY FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND OTHER COMPANIES. The agents who accessed my account and even the ones who didn't played a role in wasting my time! PEOPLE ARE DYING! And you much rather waste 30 minutes on my phone numbers?????? Waste all my time asking which state I am currently in?????? Answer the Nurse Advice line, hear me ask for a nurse and waste my time asking if I am calling for a nurse!!! IF I WERE THEIR MANAGERS, THEY WOULD ALL BE WRITTEN UP MONDAY MORNING! I want all 6 complaints filed. I hung up after ENOUGH OF MY TIME WAS WASTED... With the 1st, 2nd and 3rd agent! I am not about to allowing these goofy people take me through these changes after being verified! This is a PERFECT example on why some patients are rude to Nurses! IT'S NOT FOR NOTHING! I am not playing any games with these people... A sane person justo doing their jobs would have assisted me properly! Ask for my name, DOB and get my ID #, then ask is everything up to date in your account, like address, and number? GET A YES AND MOVE ON! If HIPAA is making you ask, heres how to do it. Ask the patient in one question to verify the name, DOB, address, phone number AND MOVE ON! That can be done quickly! It does NOT take 6 people and still be acting like you can't understand. After verifying my account, I felt like stupid comments and questions were being asked to waste my time and not have to help me. I GAVE A DIFFERENT PHONE NUMBER WITH THE LAST AGENT. HAD SHE ASKED ME IF THE NUMBERS ON FILE ARE STILL GOOD I WOULD HAVE SAID, YES. Instead, she wanted to waste 30 additional minutes of my time discussing each number and what they are good for. Can I use that number for this and that? Okay and what about the other numbers can I use them for this that? OHHH MY GOODNESS! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ANYTHING! The Customer service, was HORRIBLE! I have ran in to MORE HORRIBLE AGENTS THAN GOOD ONES! I Filed a Grievance in August and NEVER HEAR BACK FROM ANYONE... I have checked the status and wasted my time! Anthem is so NOT THE BUSINESS! Plan to have your time WASTED with no chance to ask your medical questions for any resolution! IF YOU SIGN UP FOR ANTHEM!"
