Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is a Canadian-based gold producer with operations in Canada, Finland and Mexico and exploration and development activities extending to the United States. Agnico Eagle has full exposure to higher gold prices consistent with its policy of no-forward gold sales. As of 2017, it has paid a cash dividend every year since 1983.
A former Employee, A Heat System Technician (Boiler Operator) talks about his experience working at Agnico and described it as a place for complicity and herd mentality,
"Mixed experience here. Positives were experienced to work in a new industry, in the Arctic, most of the people I met, but it was later outweighed with heavy downsides. AEM Meliadine was the first place where regulations and laws were to be overlooked - using non-qualified, non-licensed people to do regulated work. I came under fire for touring the safety guy from my supervisor, general supervisor, and later superintendent, obviously not a good thing. Lots of other preventive maintenance things or imperative repairs were written off until later disaster to boost balance sheet and individual management figures (general supervisor, superintendent, in my case). Eventually, it becomes a depressing place to work. Too many insider hires and friends promoting friends. Had to face anti-Mideast hostilities here and came under fire for complaining to management about that. Becoming a non-pluralistic work environment. AEM needs to cleaning house in my opinion at Meliadine in Site Services and possibly elsewhere or risk a large financial loss."

The company has decided that "top heavy" is the way to go....with all these new senior managers who have their own interests as priority, and will do anything and cross anyone in order to succeed. Every decision is made from a numbers stance, mostly because the company is all financial people, most of whom have never even worked a day in a mine and only know how to play politics and blame rather than do anything productive."
Former Employee - Heat Systems Technician says"Regulations not important, favoritism and insider hiring. I was framed by management for a false diesel leak spill shortly the mining inspectors arrived on-site. The company will take the cheapest route from what I seen, even if that includes not following reulations or employing the proper trades tickets. Saw high ranking senior management at the mine engage in sexist behavior. Not a place I'd be sending my daughter for a co-op placement. The company always will say the right thing but not necessarily do it. There is a big disconnect between Toronto and the reality in Nunavut."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"Sexism - not a good place for women wanting to advance. Not supportive of women wanting to start a family. They get annoyed with maternity leaves. They visible treat men differently and with more respect and inclusivity. Racism - knowingly or not they make racist and insensitive comments often. Complaints don't get treated seriously and there are almost never any consequences for the offender. Bullying - too many leaders use this tactic and get away with it. emotionally unsafe environment. Micromanagement - leaders focus on controlling things that employes should be able to handle. You have to get too many people involved in projects and it slows the process too much wasting time and money Unclear expectations - hard to know what they want and they always keep changing Overwork/no life balance - jobs are overloaded on purpose and burn people out. Favoritism/nepotism - both exist all over the company and its to the disadvantage of so many good and smart people with no relation ties in the company. Out of touch- operating in really old ways of thinking and not open to change . Old technology and no vision for anything new or innovative"

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says"The previous comments on here are right -. Agnico has many problems with bullying, discrimination, favortism and bad leadership. They keep promoting people who shouldn't be in leadership positions. Senior management ignores the problems and some of them are the problem. There are many examples of poor leadership but it's impossible to rely on HR in those cases. HR has a reputation of having poor leadership and displaying behaviors that include burning out and bullying their own team members to the point that many have left. If that kind of leadership is tolerated in HR then how can you prevent other departments from doing the same? Agnico does a good job telling you how great they are but a really bad job living up to it when it comes to the work atmosphere and holding leaders accountable."

Top management is mostly from Quebec and they only look out for their own. They don't support anyone else. No opportunity for advancement in the head office. Opportunities are reserved for friends and family. Management is resistant to new ideas . Behind the times in their thinking. Nothing new or innovative to see or learn."

They make us feel like slaves to the shareholders, like nothing else we do matters, only the shareholders. We get it...we are just pawns. Also, management tends to act like it is 1950 sometimes. They are resistant to modern forms of work environments that newer companies are doing, and very conservative in their approach. Sometimes I wonder if they will bring back the punch clock."

Fake smile. People don't seem to care about other people. HR is very unorganized and no communication what so ever. They put you on contract and treat you as you don't exist. HR has a very poor management. People come and go and HR does not let the people that work there know who are the new people or when people leave the company, people don't seems to know where these people are. You ask HR and they pretend they don't know. HR treats people very poorly and absolutely NO Communication. Its terrible. They seem to be nice at first until you get to know them."
