Orlistat is a drug designed to treat obesity. It is marketed as a prescription drug under the trade name Xenical by Roche in most countries, and is sold over-the-counter as Alli by GlaxoSmithKline in the United Kingdom and the United States. Its primary function is preventing the absorption of fats from the human diet by acting as a lipase inhibitor, thereby reducing caloric intake. It is intended for use in conjunction with a healthcare provider-supervised reduced-calorie diet.
An upset customer shares her experience on productreview.co.au, "I would not recommend Xenical to anyone, it is horrific. I took it for six months and it took my body some time to return to normal. I really don't think it did anything, it was all the work at the gym that did it. The uncontrollable diarrhea is embarrassing and inconvenient. The oil/fat that comes out with your pooh is just vile and leads to constant cleaning of your toilet. I think there are healthier, easier and less embarrassing ways to lose weight. I can't think of any. Uncontrollable diarrhea, horrible oil leakage - all very uncomfortable and embarrassing."
