Orscheln Farm & Home is a retail chain of farm and ranch supply stores headquartered in Moberly, Missouri. Orscheln has 175 stores located in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ohio and as of May 2018, the company opened its 175th location along with its first location in Texas.

Department Head says"The pay is the lowest I've made in years. You are just a number to the company. The store manager promises things but doesn't deliver. Very cliquish. Assistant managers can get away with being lazy. They treat other employees like crap. Store manager has favorites and let them get away with anything while the others were expected to work harder to cover. Ancient registers system. No logic in anything done except if it comes to bottom line which is all corporate cares about. Corporate controls thermostat and lights which is stupid."

Assistant Manager says"- Pay not congruent with responsibility/workload - Insurance cost is too high for poor coverage - Reduced hours in store budget and increased expectations for staff with no pay adjustment - No ability to take any vacation or reasonable time off - Sales floor full of items that do not belong in a farm store - Storage area full of same items mentioned above - Warehouse repeatedly sending more inventory of same items mentioned above - Requires uniform, but not provided (vest is provided, however plain shirt must be purchased) - Understocked on most items customers really need, overstocked on items nobody will use - Suggestions to upper management are frowned upon unless solicited - Not paid for time taken to drop deposit at bank or time responding to alarm calls - Management spends more time criticizing problems instead of finding out why there is one"

Sales Associate says"Almost everything about this company is terrible if you are a hard working, competent employee! Terrible work enviroment! Some of management under qualified and completely incompetent! You get punished for working hard - I get assigned more tasks than anyone else and the more difficult ones because I work hard and the lazy employees who just stand around all day do not get punished they get rewarded by being given the simple easy tasks! If you are friends with management you don't have to work at all just stand around shooting the breeze with management and other employees until it's time to go home. Low pay is also a problem and the yearly raises are a bad joke. This is a pro and a con but moving up seems pretty easy - I have worked at other stores for a few days helping with inventory prep and managers seem lazy and under qualified at other stores as well so must be very easy to become a manager which is a pro if you want to become one but a major con when you're stuff working for these people. Worst company I have had the misfortune of working for."

Management doesn't follow company policies or work to build up, encourage, teach proper procedures, or train a good company employee team. I witnessed managers plot on firing hard working employees or "get rid of them" by treating them unfair to push employees to quit because they had no legitimate reason except that they didn't like them"

Assistant Manager (Current Employee) says"Avoid working here at all cost. They absolutely care nothing about employees. It's all about the customers. A customer can call you names, cuss you out and disrespect you, yet they will grovel to them to keep their business. Not get your side of the story and make you sit through a customer service class. Even though you've never had any kind of customer complaint. You have witnesses to say that wasn't what happened. They sh** on their employees.Can advance pretty quicklack of Pay for the amount of work they expect, not respect for employees"

An assistant mgr was pushed out for complaining of corporate promises not kept. Bonuses offered but impossible to achieve"
Head Cashier (Former Employee) says"I was there for 3 almost 4 years and towards the end we got a new store manager, he clearly had favorites and if you weren’t a favorite it was VERY clear. Over a 3 month period of time we had 3 assistant manager positions open up and I applied each time but each time he told me “a good assistant manager can’t have anxiety” He denied my PTO because “you’re the head cashier, it’s your job to work days on register” he basically didn’t want to put someone else on register for a week. He turned a great workplace into a terrible one"

He would call people health disorders crazy all the time. He would discriminate based on your gender and often tells women they are useless for anything but standing around."

Reached out to management and corporate for answers and only got ignored. Had to take a test to sell weapons and the manager sat with me trying to give me answers, his were wrong and mine were right. Disrespected and never give the opportunity to show what I can do. Manager lied about messages I sent, I provided corporate proof when he didn’t, still got let go.NoneEverything"

Assistant Manager (Former Employee) says"I was an assistant manager. You are expected to be there 7 days a week. Need time off? Forget about that! You were expected to get a list done in one day, which should take several days to complete, on top of helping customers, firearms sales (If certified), over ride returns at the register, check approval at the register, receive freight when it arrives, put away a full truck of freight in one day with minimal staff and get yelled at if it isn't done! I would highly suggest working elsewhere, you will be worked darn near to death! I know I was and that's why I left!NoneWork til you're blue in the face.. then keep going"

The relationship between the manager and the assistant-manager was inappropriate on more than one level. Not to mention the talking behind peoples backs and the nasty remarks about employees on social media. You better hope you don't want time off because if you take it guaranteed there is going to be upset and drama. The assistant manager has a horrible attitude about EVERYTHING and the worst customer service skills I've ever encountered. The only good part about the atmosphere is that if you work hard you can be busy from start to end, and the small town store attitude with customers. Stay to yourself, work hard, and watch your back."

Cashier/Sales Associate (Former Employee) says"This location was not a good place at all. You get only about fifteen hours a week if you are lucky. The key holder which is right below the managers and above you will yell cuss and scream at you in front of customers, and the management will do nothing about it. They have a really high turn over rate. The best part is the one hour break because you can leave for an hour."

Rules of which are in place to follow are getting changed weekly, making it hard to effectively run the store.No set schedule, not set lunches, not guranteed time to take your vacation days or personal days even when they are earned."
