Buprenorphine, sold under the brand name Butrans, among others, is an opioid used to treat opioid use disorder, acute pain, and chronic pain. It can be used under the tongue, in the cheek, by injection, as a skin patch, or as an implant. For opioid use disorder, it is typically started when withdrawal symptoms have begun and for the first two days of treatment under direct observation of a health care provider.
A 65-year-old patient shares with disappointments on askapatient.com, "Butrans is a useless drug. It is supposed to work in a synergistic manner with oral morphine but even at the highest dosage, it doesn't have any effect at all on my chronic back pain."

Mrs. Candida Ridgwell says
"I found the treatment poor. I was seen by different doctors on each appointment and initially had a very cursory examination after an MRI. I was advised to have injections in my back. This did not resolve the problem. It took an independent physiotherapist to suggest it was my hips that were the problem. After a hip x-ray, I had a successful bilateral hip replacement at the Princess Grace in March."St says
"the doctor at londonspine.com sent me for an MRI and advised immediate surgery after a consultation lasting *minutes*. I declined the surgery and I'm 100% fine 10 years on. Would definitely *not* recommend. UPDATE: As soon as this review went out, londonspine.com flagged it as 'not genuine' to trustpilot, in order to take it down. Thankfully, I still had records of what happened, and had the review reinstated. You have been warned."Susie Weisz says
"I felt that they were too quick to offer a steroid injection, even before the results were back from all the tests, they had booked me in for the proceedure which I then ended up not needing. They made me go through tbe pre op with a nurse and even spoke to my insurance company to claim for it when it turned out I did not even need the proceedure."Ildiko Dienesch says
"I was given very strong painkillers- without sufficient background information as to risks/how long I should take these for and crucially without any stomach protecting medication which I later found out (after consulting other doctors) would need to be prescribed as a standard."Social Media

"@chronicallybeee That's a tough one. I currently have to take narcotics. I have a butrans patch and take extra if I'm in severe pain."Carrie says
