Audible Sucks Customer Reviews and Feedback

From Everything.Sucks

Audible is a seller and producer of spoken audio entertainment, information, and educational programming on the Internet. Audible sells digital audiobooks, radio and TV programs, and audio versions of magazines and newspapers. Through its production arm, Audible Studios, Audible has also become the world's largest producer of downloadable audiobooks. Audible's content is usually only accessible through special proprietary closed software, including unauthorized-playback prevention by means of an Amazon account. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw people in several countries confined to their homes, Audible made many children's and classic titles free to access via its website, with no sign-in required.

Sofie shared her experience: "Audible charged me 15 dollars without even subscribing, I never agreed to a 30 day trial or anything, I even went to my account settings to see if I accidentally had agreed to a subscription but there was no "cancel" button or anything. I believe they charged me for a credit, and not the 7.99 dollars that the normal monthly amount usually is. I have deleted my card from them and all I can do is hope that they don't charge next month? Bc there is absolutely no way for me to cancel."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at Audible full-time for more than 3 years Cons: ...the reason they pay well and provide lots of perks is because it is a truly miserable place. People stay there for the money. Most get driven out in a year or two. Incredibly high turn over."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at Audible full-time for more than 3 years Cons: 1. Location is not ideal. Even though they provide shuttle service from the path station, the location is just not safe. I've seen people getting into fights with blood all over at the station and heard female co-workers being harassed at the station. 2. Managers play favoritism a lot. Be aware of the team you're joining. There are still some good teams and good managers. Not many though. 3. The management has no concern for the employee but only for what's beneficial to themselves. 4. Constant re-org. Lots of politics. You might be surprised. 5. HR team is the worst I've ever seen. A lot of them are not doing their job properly."

Current Employee - Senior Manager says

"I have been working at Audible full-time Cons: Constant re-orgs mean if you dont play politics you will never get promoted, especially in Finance/Insights. Hard work doesnt pay, managers play favorites, and promises are never kept. Horrible place to come for a career. Not a start up feel as some may try to convince you it is."

Current Employee - Software Development Engineer says

"I have been working at Audible full-time for more than a year Cons: Managers don’t care about employees"

"I have been working at Audible Cons: HR doesnt do their job, and often time overlooks managers who play favoritism. The intense favoritism for certain individuals will often time result in people assuming choices are made by other criteria besides work performance (Gender, Race, religion, etc) . No oversight of managers for promotion allows for manager bias to hold back hard working individuals. Some people have to work longer and harder for promotions than other people. Some people just never get promoted because of politics their managers play."

Current Employee - Senior Product Manager says

"I have been working at Audible full-time for less than a year Cons: Centralized way of prioritization. Every decision requires 3 months and very revenue driven."

Current Employee - Software Development Engineer says

"I have been working at Audible full-time for more than a year Cons: They literally dupe you. The higher management has no concern for the employees and what they want. There is a serious lack of communication There is no focus on employee happiness. They say there is a work life balance but I dont see it. There is a provision to work remotely but it is frowned upon by your colleagues. People gossip all the time and tend to be into other people's business. Overall a very toxic work culture. One hardly ever sees the CEO. Setting up meetings with anyone above your manager is next to impossible. No good intake program. No good mentorship program."

Current Employee - SDE1 says

"I have been working at Audible full-time for more than a year Cons: Everything is top down, if management says you're dumb, make this, the entire org does that. Only come here if you have no passion for life."

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I have been working at Audible full-time Cons: In late 2017 there was a company wide survey done. There were several areas identified for improvement. To date there have been no real changes made. This makes me believe that senior leaders only care about lip service. Not really a great impression to have. That’s the one big thing about Audible. It’s all talk and no action. If you’re happy to come to work every day and never grow and just cash out your RSU’s in a few years this is the place for you. Maybe you will get lucky and end up with one of the few unicorns who do care about career growth but it really all depends on your department. Some areas are worse than others."

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says

"I worked at Audible full-time for more than a year Cons: Just about everything else, place is an absolute joke. Its a mercy child of Amazon and proof of a monopoly at work. Senior leaders are insanely stuck as the CEO and the legacy group of hanger-ons run everything....into the ground."

Recruitment Coordinator (Former Employee) says

"Work/life balance is non-existent. Management is in complete disarray and expect you to work super long/late hours. Culture is not pleasant and many are overworked/underpaid. Seems like an exciting place to work due to brand recognition until you actually start and realize it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. The whole group needs a complete overhaul. Not worth the free lunch/snacks provided."

Customer Service/Tech Support (Former Employee) says

"Horrible people, favoritism, and overworked and under paid"

Receptionist (Former Employee) says

"Everyone is stressed there. The only happy ones are the higher ups. Everyone looks to the next person to finish up a work or get started. Management is quick to point fingers."

Customer Service Representative -Lead (Former Employee) says

"Not much growth potential for people of color. If you are over 25 good luck going anywhere in the company. The favoritism is out of control! They give you food daily for lunch and breakfast and have a game room. Misc perks to entice younger workers. Wouldn’t recommend working there. They like very young workers because they can be easily manipulated. Because most are in their first real job."

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) says

"As a satellite office to the Audible Headquarters in New Jersey, which is itself an Amazon acquisition, the Cambridge office struggles to find its own identity. Projects come and go, and the head count after being stagnant is on the rise, but real growth and new projects are hard to find, and the path to advancement is unclear and elusive. Cons: Small company as part of a very large one, and a satellite office. Little substantial growth and lack of vision."

Assistant (Former Employee) says

"big disappointment. executive is passive/aggressive with little to no communication on roles and responsibilities. publicly humiliates you in front of your peers, and seems to have difficulty looking you in the eye. Cons: incommunicative; divisive"

Finance (Former Employee) says

"Good benefits, and extraordinary employees to network with. However, company does not foster growth in some departments. Turnover rate is high and morale is low."

Accounting Assistant (Former Employee) says

"I was hire as a contractor for an Accounts Payable position. I barely did any accounting work. I basically didn't learn anything. I got stuck with their so called "special projects" which consisted of doing their filing."

Quality Assurance Administrator (Former Employee) says

"A typical day at work."

Anonymous (Current Employee) says

"Audible is a subsidiary company of Amazon, and you will enjoy many benefits that Amazon employees receive."

Receptionist (Current Employee) says

"There are good things that I can say about Audible. Fun place to work. The company offered a lot of perks. Paid parking or public transportation; catered lunch and breakfast, tickets for events at major arena's in the Newark area just to name a few. Very fast pace environment, nice be people, very large staff. Unfortunately management in my team was not at their best to mentor and fully support you in growth and moving up within the department. Very isolating in their approach in things that mattered in fully being a team player. A person/teams actions will always speak louder than words and in appearance. Loyalty goes a long way, unfortunately they have work to do in this area Cons: lack of loyalty"

Sr Audio Mastreing Engineer (Former Employee) says

"This company is under Amazon and tremendous work in everyday. lots of meeting and project are going on. Transition stage of company from small to big (Amazon)."

Executive Assistant to CIO and SVP Product / Technology (Former Employee) says

"Forward thinking, customer centric company that has been working hard to provide a great product to customers for years. Culture is ever changing and progressive."

Data Analyst (Former Employee) says

"Awesome small to mid-size company. Offers great on-site benefits such as an awesome cafeteria, game room, entertainment room, etc. Great learning environment as well."

Team Manager 1 (Current Employee) says

"Overall Audible is a great company. They truly try their best to give you a great work experience. My time here has been great. If you are looking for experience this a great place to start."

Steve says

"I pay 300.00 for a repair just after year Expired. Not a happy customer, so they gave me a gift certificate for half of cost. After 11/2 yr. Later they mailed me the 300.00 bill again saying it was past due. There billing department is horrible."

Karen Weaver says

"Arrived 10 minutes early for my friends 2 pm appointment, paperwork done and at 2:11pm the dr comes out in to the waiting room and states I am waiting for a person who is late. So we are here and we have to wait for someone who isn’t even here and is running late??? Won’t be recommending Audibel to anyone!"

Avido Quinn says

"HI i bought there hearing aids i paid $10.000 and they are broken i went to VA and got a pair they are great Audibel are very bad don"t buy from them .They will screw you ."

"I have had my aids for less than 3 years, and the right one has been in the shop 4 times and the left 1 time. For the amount of money paid the quality is not good.
The dealer that I purchased from have been very good about their service, but when you have an over priced inferior product to work with it is tough to keep your cool."

Laurie Kutzman says

"I am waiting for the second time that my right hearing aid to be replaced. I purchased a set of VIA 1600R hearing aids on 6/2/2020. My insurance has been filed incorrectly. I paid in full for my hearing aids, the insurance paperwork was sent requesting payment to Audibel which makes it impossible for me to receive payment until they correct my claim. I contacted Audibel in Port Charlotte today, if this isn't corrected soon I will have to pay interest on $4000.00 that I charged to my Credit Card. I am disappointed in the hearing aids and the service, I wish that I had not made this purchase."

Sheila Murphy says

"I do not even want to give the 1 star. We purchased these for my husband and as soon as the warranty was up the service went from just ok, to extremely terrible at the affiliate level. I will admit that the company I have not dealt with but based on my affiliate level lack of service, will not be recommending this product to anyone."

Richard Curley says

"My 86 year old father has been trying to get these hearing aids that he paid six thousand dollars for to work ever since he bought them. They are in the shop being fixed 90% of the time, 8% of the time they are on the counter because they are not working and the other 2% of the time they work as they should. The Audibel technician say they are going to do something to make them work better but after waiting long periods of time while in the shop, they come back in the same condition as when they left. He told us the last time he was going to put stronger longer wires on because my Dad has a large head, but when they came back they had the same wires as before and they only stayed working for a few days. These units are not worth six dollars nevermind six thousand dollars!"

Karl Gaudet says

"These people need a competent office manager. They have two offices and can't seem to get anything straight between them. One of them can't even give directions to their office. Wasted an entire day trying to pick up hearing aids that were paid for already. Looking somewhere else now;"

Big G says

"Thought it was pretty cool to have an online hearing test. Long time waiting since I've had severe hearing loss pretty much my entire life. I was however dissapointed in the results given after I completed the test. I could care less about statistics on hearing loss worldwide or in my country. All I care about is my own hearing and the hearing aid that I have. I was hoping to see some kind of graph of such so I could compare results for later use or with and without my aid. Similar to what I would get in an office hearing test. This isn't rocket science. You either hear it or you don't. A computer knows exactly what decibels it is putting out. So it is all dependent on the quality of the ear buds or speakers. Still the results will be close to a real test."

Leslie Hoppe says

"Within a couple of weeks one of my new hearing aids was not working properly. It would turn on and off. I returned it for repair on January 30 and I have yet to have it returned."

Richard Cramer says

"I have mixed feelings about my hearing aid experience. It has now been about a year since I was examined and fitted for my aids. I have no complaints about the initial process, though there was a bit of delay in the delivery of the aids. I suppose they have worked as well as I could have expected, though adjusting is somewhat cumbersome.
When deciding which model to choose, I was persuaded by the Audibel rep. to go with one that requires replacement batteries, rather than a rechargable model. Replacements are not inexpensive and I have found that they don't last that long, regardless of the amount of time I actualy use them.
Most bothersome is the fact that the Thrive feature is problematic. Any time there is an update, my aids no longer connect to Thrive. The process of re-connecting to Blu-tooth is multi-step and sufficiently complicated that I usually end up calling headquarters to walk me through it. And the Blu-tooth/Thrive feature added considerable expense. Until I reconnect, all the neat Thrive features are unavailable to me."

Jacob Beamesderfer says

"One your newest Via 2400 and 2400 AI we have had multiple issues with batt drain and connectivity. When we receive it back from repair all they do is replace device but never tell me what the problem is. Then with a new product I have run into the same problem more than once."

Bill says

"I’m sorry to have to go with a three star rating because I love the hearing aids. It’s the office I was dealing with in St. Joe. Very poor customer service. The initial visit went great and went downhill from there. Lost paperwork which cost me time and money. Wouldn’t return phone calls if they weren’t there. I’m supposed to go in for a 6 month cleaning and check up but may skip it. They still work fine and I can clean them. I would recommend the same type of device I have to everyone needing them. They work great! Tinnitus Program didn’t help me much but might for some people."
